PLANNING FOR OPENING

SEQUENCE

No Way Out

Page 2: Planning and Feedback of Opening Sequence

Sub-Genre and Conventions The sub genre of our thriller film will be

psychological. We have decided to do a psychological thriller because at the moment, there is not alot of thrillers that consist of psychological attributes. Thinking about a storyline for a psychological thriller has a lot of depth involved because we want the film to seem psychological and not strange like a rape and revenge thriller. So to ensure this doesn’t happen we have decided that:

The main character needs to wear normal everyday clothes, so that our opening sequence has the realism of everyday life.

Opening Sequence: No Way Out

Opening:The girl ,who is the antagonist, walking home from work. Everything will seem normal.

There will be a close up of the girl’s hand, to show the blood which is on her hand.

The girl will be trying to hide her hand so that people that are walking around her aren’t aware of the blood.

Whilst on her way home she is trying to find the quickest way possible back to her house but everywhere she turns there is someone there. Who she ends up bumping into.

She arrives at her home which in the dark seems very spooky and her gate which leads into the driveway is scarier than ever.

As she walks in, a sheet of paper falls out of her pocket which has some numbers on which seems like a telephone number.

But instead it is a code to a lock on the side of the gate, any other lock would open with. This code opens up a secret cardboard which inside has a list of people’s names on and a telephone.

She begins to call someone on the phone and the audience hears her say “it is done now leave me alone”

Character Types The main character is going to be portrayed as a

antagonist at the beginning of the opening sequence, but as the opening sequence continues the audience will learn that in fact she is really a protagonist but carrying out antagonist attributes because of her weaknesses.

We will also have extras throughout the opening sequence who are innocently walking by the girl to help with the realism of the opening sequence. Having the antagonists flashing through the sequence, will leave the audience wondering what is going to happen to all these people.

As a group we are still deciding who is to play the protagonist and we need to ask some people to play the extras.

Suggested Location We shall be filming in the streets, for the realism of a

normal day walking home from work. As the filming is mainly outside the lighting will vary on what time of day we plan to film.

Our initial idea is to film in the late afternoon/ early evening, this will give us low key lighting that will help create an atmosphere suitable for a thriller as it becomes tense and mysterious. The sounds created from being outside will make it feel more realistic and weary conveying a tense and anxious mood. There will also be a number of artificial sounds like screaming that will appear that only the girl will hear.

BBFC Rating The age group we are aiming our thriller

to is age 15. We have decided that rating at 15 is the best possible age range because there maybe some use of mild language. There will be no nudity, no use of drugs, but there maybe use of gory images but not too gory because of the 15 rating guidelines given by the BBFC.

Individual Roles Within The Production We will all take part in the research and planning, filming,

editing and many more duties. This will enable us all to be involved in every stage of the production.

Main Duties that the group will carry out: Lucy: Camera Director Alice: Director Lauren: Producer Whole Group: Costume, Make-up, Casting, Editing Everyone is going to be able film and edit during the whole

production. We are thinking about getting some other people from our year group and out of school to be in the production so we can get a range of age ranges and genders so the opening will look more realistic.
