2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Page 2: Question 2

Front cover The front cover overall connotes a negotiated reading.

There’s nothing revealing about the front cover. In fact it’s quite innocent looking and so far there’s nothing to say that my model is from a certain social group.

The pink in the background can connote that the magazine is more female than male.

The alarm clock doesn’t connote anything about the social group. It’s used as a prop for a title of a song.

The camera angle is titled but my models eye contact draws you into the magazine. It’s different from most mainstream magazines.

Magazine NameTNG (The New Generation) definitely connotes that this magazine is aimed at young people. We are the new generation that are about to come into the world to keep it going, work wise.

I thought the title being on a 90o angle and shortened to TNG added impact and style. There’s nothing so far to say it’s aimed specifically at one social group.

Contents PageThe content title gradually growing smaller is just for style and something abit different, which could attract my social group as they aren’t mainstream but aren’t totally individual, they are different.

The three photo’s are visually showing a saying. My social group are very into the meanings of things.

The content features will show the type of music my social group are into which is quite indie pop. They also like festivals. The music choice shows a lot about my audience. It still doesn’t have absent representation appearing.

The small design at the bottom of the page is simply for style and effect.

Double page spread (first side)The title and the overall look and layout of the double page spread would definitely appeal more to females more than males.

The exclusive parts such as the album track list and the favourites are something extra for the reader that they would be interested in.

All three pictures are take at the same angle but at different zooms. I believe the photos represent a preferred reading as they’re very positive and send out the right message to young girls.

Double page spread (second side)

I think the writing and the large captions send out a very preferred readings. The interview altogether is positive and something my intended social group would be interested in.

The photo could send out the wrong message and be a oppositional reading but it is intended to just be abit of fun and to look right on the page, which I believe it does.

The story connotes a lot about my social group. It gives them hope that maybe something like this could happen to them one day. They believe a lot in luck.
