What kind of media institution might distribute your media

product and why?

Page 2: Question 3

We decided that one of the best ways we could have distributed our media product would have been a TV release. This is because it would have provided an instant wider audience as quite a lot of people don’t go to the cinema and maybe our style of movie wouldn’t have been very well suited for most cinema audiences anyway. Most modern film-makers tend to make either horror or action/adventure films so there possibly would have been less interest in a film noir style movie. We wanted the best possible product that could be easily available for our target audience as we had decided that our target audience were older teens/young adults because of the 15 rating we placed on our media product. We wanted a way in which our product could be easily distributed and still maintain public interest.

A TV release still has some drawbacks however. This being that our media product would only be displayed when the TV network would want to show it. This can definitely affect publicity of the movie as a person might miss the showing of our product and then would need to wait a while for the network to show it again. There are many networks however such as the channel 4 network’s ‘Film 4’ which sometimes show featured movies a few times within a short space of time. They also sometimes show the ‘British Connection’ season which displays lower budget movies from British directors and producers. This would be perfect for our media product as it could give us the publicity that we would need.

We also thought that another good way to go about releasing our media product would be an internet release. Services such as ‘YouTube’ can provide large amounts of publicity and advertising and can allow audiences to directly access our media product. Also a lot services such as ‘Facebook’ can allow for large amounts of viral advertising as people can share files and videos and also provide comments so this could be important for the publicity and advertising and also possible feedback that we would need for our media product and how we could possibly improve it at a later date. A lot people within our target audience tend to use the likes of Facebook and other social networking sites quite a lot so this could have been beneficial for the marketing and advertising of our product within our target audience range.
