The Magazine:

Target Readership:

Beat It is a music magazine which is written in the same style of Kerrang!, NME and other popular music magazines on sale in the UK. Unlike the others, however which cover a wide range of different bands and instruments, this one is going to be focused entirely on the people who play the drums. The target audience that the magazine will be trying to attract is mostly college students and young adults, mostly male aged between 18-25 years with part-time jobs classed between C2 and E on the Demographics scale.

Form & Style:

Beat It! will be printed on A4 paper in full colour and it will contain interview pages with famous drummers in bands, Information about different genres of drumming such as heavy metal, etc.… On the subject of what the front cover should look like, the main image should either be a famous drummer performing on a drum kit such as Vinnie Paul of Hellyeah, Dave Abbruzzese of Pearl Jam, Chris Alder of Lamb of God, to name a few, or of a new up and coming band to get in with the younger crowd. The upcoming front cover of Beat It magazine will be designed in a retro rock design done in the style of Gene Simmons, KISS band, which will give the magazine a snazzy graphic style to grab the reader’s attention when they see the magazine on display. I haven’t decided on a price yet, but I can estimate that it will cost somewhere in between 50p and £2.00.

Themes and Typical features: As I have already mentioned before, Beat It will feature interviews

with drummers from popular bands such as Keith Moon from the WHO, Neil Peart from Rush, to name a few again. Because of today’s standards of what audiences consider great music, The magazine will be strongly focused on trying to please its target audience which is young adults or students with part-time jobs by the way, by covering a wide range of different genres such as Heavy metal, Brass, Rock, etc, for this I have looked at the target audiences for other music magazines such as Kerrang! Which is focused on metal in all of its various forms and NME is rock/indie and new bands. Beat it will also cover Tour dates, reviews of the latest albums and concerts and the tone of the articles will be informal as if talking to a band member or best friend.

Potential advertisers:

Because Beat it is going to be a magazine that will appeal mostly to the male gender, the advertising brands featured will be mostly aimed at that audience and most of the products advertised will mainly be focused on the entertainment and body-care industries such as Sony, Lynx, Microsoft , FCUK, GAP, NIKE, Samsung, Etc,

Editorial Team:

The people that I have in mind for my editorial team should be made up of mostly die-hard music fans that can contribute ideas to the writing department and will also help to design the draft for the front cover. The team will also require older music professionals which know what they are talking about to supervise the writing sessions covering serious topics such as the recent death of Whitney Hudson or Lindsey Lohan’s drug addition to avoid a controversial response.
