Chamber music was often played in the homes of the upper classes. The strings, woodwind and piano or harpsichord would be the main instruments played.

The Beggar’s Opera was a satirical look at the formal opera. It debuted in France and ran for a very long time. It was a comical look at European’s fascination with Italian Opera.

Italian and German were the two most common languages that Opera was performed in. Vienna, the birthplace of formal classical music was also the center of Classical music as a whole. Italian was a primary language as was German, so operas were written in these two languages.
