“The Redoubt Tower” A redoubt (historically redout) is a fort or fort system usually consisting of an
enclosed defensive emplacement outside a larger fort, usually relying on
earthworks, although others are constructed of stone or brick. It is meant to
protect soldiers outside the main defensive line and can be a permanent structure
or a hastily constructed temporary fortification. The word means "a place of
retreat". Redoubts were a component of the military strategies of most European
empires during the colonial era, especially in the outer works of Vauban-style
fortresses made popular during the 17th century, although the concept of redoubts
has existed since medieval times
The Redoubt supplements the existing defensive Tower unit but is its own
building/combat unit. It will also be built on your Wall, to make every defender
more of a force to be reckoned with. Where the Tower had long range but was
weaker, the Redoubt has shorter range but has much higher Attack and Life, more
Defense, and higher Accuracy. Since the Redoubt is more fortified, it sits at the
end of the Ranged units’ attack priority list and is resilient against Archers and
Flame Archers.
As with the existing Tower, the Redoubt can be destroyed by enemy forces if left
undefended, but your citizens will repair the damage to the Redoubt at the end of
the battle, allowing it to participate in every attack without costing you Upkeep.
The Redoubt will still contribute Might to your cities, but will not affect how much
Glory you get from battles.
The Redoubt will be removed from a city if you Ascend it.
Like the original Tower, the Redoubt will not use the usual general Throne Room
boosts but it does share the same stats you’re using for your Tower now. So your
TR stats like “Tower Attack” will now apply to your Tower AND Redoubt! Neither
Tower receives buffs or debuffs from Champion stats.
Since Archers are less effective against the Redoubt than the Tower, the Redoubt
is between the Tower and Wall on the priority list. So your units will destroy the
Tower first since they do normal damage against it, then the Redoubt, and finally,
the Wall.
The Redoubt has a shorter Range than Archers, so if you're not using troops to
back it up, of course Archers will eventually beat it. Archers have much lower
Accuracy against the Redoubt so it will take them a lot longer to kill it than melee
troops, but if you're not going to defend it, the Redoubt will still eventually fall.
As with the Defensive Tower, the Redoubt Tower can be upgraded.
Currently the upgrade pieces are going to lvl 10 as where lvl 11 is not introduced yet.
Level 1 - Free to build
Level 2 - Free to build
Level 3 - Earthen Wall upgrade
Level 4 – Trenching upgrade
level 5 - Lookout Upgrade
Level 6 - Stone wall upgrade
Level 7 – Spiked Shielding Upgrade
Level 8 - Flag Signals upgrade
Level 9 – Guard Tower Upgrade
Level 10 - Armor Plated Wall Upgrade.
? Level 11 – Not available yet
The STATS & Caps
Tower Attack 2000% -25%
Tower Defense 5000% -25%
Tower Life 500% -50%
Tower Range 200% -25%
Tower Accuracy 1500 0.1%
If the Redoubt tower can benefit from the same TR cards as the Defensive
Tower, then the same stats & caps apply.
The difference being the base stats of both towers.
Where the Tower had long range but was weaker, the Redoubt has shorter range
but has much higher Attack and Life, more Defense, and higher Accuracy.
Since Archers are less effective against the Redoubt
than the Tower, the Redoubt is between the Tower
and Wall on the priority list. So your units will
destroy the Tower first since they do normal damage
against it, then the Redoubt, and finally, the Wall.
The Throne Room Items
Like the original Tower, the Redoubt will not use the usual general Throne Room
boosts but it does share the same stats you’re using for your Tower now. So your
TR stats like “Tower Attack” will now apply to your Tower AND Redoubt! Neither
Tower receives buffs or debuffs from Champion stats
The Bright Jewels can enhance the 6th line even further with Tower stats.
You can/could have some or all items equipped in your AFK Throne Room.
Where the Tower had long Range but was weaker, the Redoubt has shorter
Range but has much higher Attack and Life, more Defense, and higher Accuracy.
1750 Range
700 Range
The Range difference also means that the Redoubt will target troops at
a later stage. As to why? Hypothesis is to attack the SoulStealers (or
SW) at a later stage in battle. (so the battle reports won’t go 100
rounds)
This specific question/Hypothesis was asked to Luna, but she has not
replied to it.
At level 10 (or 11) this hypothesis will be more visible and can be
conformed or debunked.
FACTSHEET You lose Redoubt tower progress when Ascending to a new level
You should be safe at ascension level 6, as Rockyou has stated it will
not release the remaining ascension levels. (too costly) Thus once you
are on level 6 and maw redoubt tower, you will not lose progress.
For now, level 10 is the highest you can get for Redoubt tower, but
subject to change, aka other items could be released taking it to level
11 or higher.
Due to the might gain of the towers (being equal, rest assure players
will “use” it in classical tournaments of might and other TOM’s.
That’s the other side of the sword, we think Redoubt could address a
specific (battle) problem, and in addition the game has now more
towers with tower upgrade pieces for ToM’s and monetization
purposes.
Conclusion
By testing the Defensive tower, the Greek Fire, Wall Mounted x-bows, until
now I personally found that the X-bows always have stood out, since the
beginning basically in KoC.
Sure combining, the Defensive Tower, with X-bows, Greek Fire, Redoubt
Tower etc., will of course kill something. This depending on the TR you have
up, and whether there are TR Tower pieces active or not. Or if the Preset up
Has high range debuff, debuffing the attacking troops, while the Towers
have full Range advantage.
If in doubt, always look how history has judged something. Many countries
have built Redoubts that still can be visited to day.
“By 1859 advances in warfare and artillery meant that a British Government report
found that the Martello Towers and Redoubts were ‘not an important element of
security against attack’. The Redoubt slowly fell into disuse”
I think that quote is still valid in KoC, the advances in TR greatly null many of the
Wall & Field defenses. With a Battle TR you can wipe out field & wall defenses with
little losses.
Time will tell if it influences the battles at higher levels, but either way higher
might goals will be set in Tournaments of Might. 8 cities give 16 towers and
eventually 22 tower pieces for them to be upgraded.
Boosting might to very high levels, and for now it may have been the main purpose
to monetize this even further.
If that’s the case, we could see Martello Towers, Redan’s and what not
Sharing is knowledge, and a lot of players are not sharing. Yes, it gives you and edge, or advantage, but
it leaves also many people clueless. The objective of these tutorials, is to teach, learn, educate players so ALL players have
a better under understanding of the game. The more players participate, the better the overall experience is for all players.
More attacking and defending means “lively” domains full of activity.
