The importance of water for arising settlement
Most cities were often founded near rivers, lakes and brooks so
that people would have closer distance to drinking water and
didn't have to import it from elsewhere. People use water for
irrigating fields or for some crafts. Then people started made artificial
basins= ponds. Artificial basins serve as reservoirs of water or for breeding of fish. The biggest pond in the Czech Republic is Rožmberk,
which is in Třeboň. On Rožmberk we can see the curvature of earth.

On confluence of Labe and Vltava there is city Mělník. Vltava is the longest river in the Czech Republic and Labe is the largest river. On rivers Vltava, Otava, Lužnice, Nežárka and Malše we transported wood from Czech to Germany. Our city Bechyně lies on confluence of Smutná and Lužnice.
