Features of a DocumentaryThere are five main aspects of a

documentary

Interviews...

This is the biggest element to a documentary. They create a contrast between observation sequences. Interviews could be either completely uninterrupted or spilt into fragments of observational.

Observation...

Observation means putting the audience in an eyewitness role. The programme makers cut to a camera that is on scene

Dramatisation...

Dramatisation means reconstructing a scene to portray people and events that the film maker cannot gain access to in real life.

Mise-en-Scene...

This means the setting that the directors and producers use in the shot. The documentary makers carefully create the shot using props and lighting in the interviews.

Exposition...

The exposition means the argument that is presented throughout the documentary. Sequences can be used to allow the audience to make their own conclusions.
