What is climate and how does it change?
Climate change is defined as a substantial change in earth’s
average weather. Climate change
occurs due to changes in
Temperature
PrecipitationWind
• Experienced the lowest temperature (5 degrees Celsius in the three northern districts) recorded in 38 years during January 2007.
• Recorded highest temperature in 14 years (42.08 degrees Celsius in Jessore) on 27 April 2009.

Deforestation is a major reason for the climate change in Bangladesh. Between 1990 and 2005, Bangladesh lost around 11,000 hectares which is about 5.4% of its forest and woodland habitat.
Production of carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) leading to immense greenhouse effect causing global warming.
Thousand metric tons of carbon dioxide produced.

Increase in human population has lead to increased emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.Increased use of electricity and cars from burning of coal oil and gas.

EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
Near about 106,300 hectors river bank has eroded over the period from 1982 to 1992 due to climate change induced hazards especially floods.
There will be a shortage of food supply. Crop production will decrease 30% in 2100. Production of rice & wheat will reduce 8.8%.
About 75% area of Sundarban (60007 Sq. km) will submerse if the sea level will increase 45 cm.
Climate change is projected to increase the burden of diarrhoea diseases in low income regions by approximately 2% to 5% in 2020.

People affected Deaths
Increase in major disasters leading to deaths of many lives and species
Prevention
Using solar energy sources to generate electricity
The first solar PV-based rural electrification project in Bangladesh was initiated with a total capacity of 62 kilowatts peak (kWp), of which 29414 kWp came from battery charge stations.
Bangladesh receives 900 x 1018 joules of solar energy annually.
Availability of solar energy per square meter is 193 Watt (W) and the consumption per square meter is only 0.17 W.
Hydroelectric Power Plant in kaptai
More hydro electric plants to generate electricity for home and industrial uses.
Size 45.7 m high from sea level and 670.6 m long maximum width : 7.6 m
Average annual flow in the reservoir : 15646 MCMInstalled capacity : 230 MW
Riverbank embankment to prevent riverbank erosion and loss of land.
Implement a minimum carbon dioxide emission law on industries that mass produce.
Control population. Tree Plantation.
The government and the citizens should become more aware of the consequences of climate change.
By the direct participation of conscious citizen and the government we can reduce the problem of climate change
Thank you all
