The importance of nuclear energy in Lithuania
Why nuclear energy is so important for us? In 2009 INPP (Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant) was
creating 76,23 % energy of Lithuania. Also INPP was the most powerful nuclear plant in whole
world. Nuclear energy concludes ¾ of all energy world. Nuclear energy concludes ¾ of all energy in Lithuania because of that it is very important to improve nuclear industry in Lithuania. Here
we will present closed INPP and Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant Project.
Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant
Ignalina nuclear power plant was started to built in 1974.On December 31, 1983 unit 1 commissioned.
In 1986 all erection works were being completed, so unit 2 was started in 1987.
It took 11 years to build the world's most powerful nuclear plant .
INPP (Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant) Unit 1 was shut down at the end of December of 2004.
Following the resolutions taken by the Government INPP Unit 2 was shut down on 31
December 2009.
During the 26 years of operation Ignalina NPP has produced 307,9 billion kWh of electricity: Unit 1 - 136,9 billion kWh and Unit 2 - 170,2
billion kWh.
