Environment ndash The term environment can be used an defined in different ways depending on the use and terms of the word according to the Oxford dictionary ldquoThe surroundings or conditions in which a person animal or plant lives or operates survival in an often hostile environmentrdquo
Environment The term Environment in expression of human aspect can be defined as the surroundings or conditions in which a person animal or plant lives or operatesrdquo
Sustainability The term Sustainability can be defined in reflectance to environmental arearsquos as ldquoFor renewable resources the rate of harvest should not exceed the rate of regeneration (sustainable yield) [For pollution] The rates of waste generation from projects should not exceed the assimilative capacity of the environment (sustainable waste disposal) and For non-renewable resources the depletion of the non-renewable resources should require comparable development of renewable substitutes for that resourcerdquo
Carbon Footprint The term Carbon foot means ldquoThe amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of the activities of a particular individual organization or communityrdquo
Waste The term Waste means Use or expend carelessly extravagantly or to no purpose In terms of environmental waste Hazardous waste is defined as liquid solid contained gas or sludge wastes that contain properties that are dangerous or potentially harmful to human health or the environment Learn how to properly manage and dispose of hazardous waste
Ozone Layer The term Ozone Layer means A layer in the earthrsquos stratosphere at an altitude of about 10 km (62 miles) containing a high concentration of ozone which absorbs most of the ultraviolet radiation reaching the earth from the sun
Fossil fuels The term Fossil fuels means A natural fuel such as coal or gas formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms

5
The Impact Customers make
ldquoOne hotel guest can generate about 1kg (2lb) of waste per night more than half of it in paper plastic and cardboard In addition to negative environmental impact as landfill capacity diminishes so the cost of waste disposal becomes more expensive In the UK for example landfilling costs are now pound48 per tonne (11 tons) compared to pound18 a tonne in 2005rdquo ldquoUp to 60 of the rubbish that ends up in the dustbin can be recycledrdquo
Customers have a huge impact on the amount of waste which is produced but if hospitality provider ie hotels help reduce the amount of waste it is possible for them to produce it benefits the hotel as less work and the environment
6
Method of reducing wasteInstall recycling bins in guest rooms
Put two bins in guestrooms one for general waste and one for
recycling The recycling one should be larger and specify which
products can be placed in it Housekeeping trolleys must be fitted
with separate bins for collecting recyclable material
Install Soap dispensers
For toiletries switch to dispensers and purchase bulk containers
The Scandic hotel chain found that only 15 of its soaps
shampoos and conditioners were used with the balance thrown
away By replacing traditional amenities with bulk items Scandic
has reduced its waste volume by 40 and packaging waste by
11 tonnes annually7
Method of reducing waste Install Water effective saving shower head
Water saving shower heads mix water with air to reduce the amount of water emitted reducing the amount of water The Shower heads controls the flow and spray pattern of water They come in a range of shapes and sizes and the design can directly affect water consumption
Use less towels
Instead of putting 4 towels in a room for one person put one or two as I you put more they donrsquot really need 4 but as they are in the room they will need to be washed
Reduce electrical use by
Install Sensors key card holder presence detector thermostat open close windows
Install Actuators lighting control air conditioning control
Install A single easy-to-use interface from simple push buttons to user-friendly touch screens
Automated functions provide additional energy savings and smoother operation without any inconvenience for the guests
Benefits for End Users10 energy savings off each guestroomrsquos electric bill
By lowering room temperature by just one degree you can shave 3 off of your HVAC systemrsquos energy consumption
Achieve additional savings through smart lighting and blind management 8
Carbon Footprint
Shower heads
Its is a good option to switch to a water saving
shower head as it reduces the water us lowering
the cost and improve your carbon footprint Its
allows guest to clean more effectively as they
have a bigger head
This is what you
could save
9
Why you should reduce your carbon
footprintPositives Helping improve the air
quality
Customer are more focus on eco tourism gives a business a more friendly and bigger cut of the market
Reduces overhead costs for waste
Supporting the future for the next generation
Helping improve the environment
Negatives If you donrsquot we will see
further Rising temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns are changing the growing patterns of plants and result in indigenous vegetation moving to increasingly cooler climates Sea levels are rising as the temperature of our planet
10
Impact Carbon footprint have on the
environment High Carbon footprints mean that you are not being environmentally friendly
such as recycling installing energy saving devices If you have a high
carbon footprint you are helping to produce greater greenhouse gases
which help destroy the earths atmosphere As the Atmosphere is destroyed
by greenhouse gases More sunlight enters through atmosphere warming the
planet and heating the atmosphere When the sunrsquos rays hit the earth they
also cause a reflection infrared radiation which is what stays in the earthrsquos atmosphere due to greenhouse gases
Reducing your carbon footprint in your business by using less towels less
water less electricity which is made by fossil fuels you help protect the
atmosphere Ozone layer
Ozone Layer depletion video watch it
11
Positives and Negatives of Suitable
developmentPositives Lowering costs
Being able to be part of the eco tourism market
More and more guest are aware of the environmental issues and our looking to stay in a economical place
Being able to provide extra services such as house bottle water thought scheme and inchoatives which support the community
Negatives The initial cost of becoming
greener and more self suitable
Possible thinking that you have to compromise quality for guest
12
Understanding the Impact Within Hospitality amp Catering we as an industry which can make a large
difference to the quality of life in terms of pollution and being more environmentally friendly One hotel has does not have a huge significant impact on the environment but collectively as a industry w throw away 287 million tonnes of rubbish and 46 of it could have been recycled It is also estimated that 920000 tonnes of this overall figure the equivalent to 13 billion meals is wasted
Serval companies such as Whitbread McDonalds have pledge to improve there wastage by running scheme such as Whitbread have called Good Together which pledges to have no landfill waste by 2020
This table shows that one hotel emit up to
206 kg of CO2 a night which is a high CO2
Level as this is seen as negative for the
Environment
13
Employment in the UK for 16 to 64 year olds has increased due to the increase in
hotels being built in the UK According to the people 1st report in 2011 hospitality
jobs made up for 42 of the total GVA in the nation
This table shows that Hospitality has
taken an increase in turnover in the
last 12 months since 2001 to 2012
14
Buying Organic food means that you our
buying something that has grow or lived as
close to natural as possible buying locally so
at local market help support the environment
as when we buy food products that need to
be shipped across the world this useless fusel
fouls which is harmful to our climate
Buying locally also support the communities
which we live in by keeping value resources
and economy within the local area
supporting local development
When we buy items which have been
shipped this becomes an environmental
issue so it is 100 positive to buy locally to
support ourselves and our communities
If we donrsquot buy locally this impacts the
environment our own community suffers
and we are not getting as fresh product
We also have organisations like Fairtrade
which support local growth and Fairtrade for
each person so that the farmers get a fair
price
Buying Locally How this helps the Environment communities and ourselves
15
Fairtrade
Fairtrade is a charity organisation which was founded as they found that farmer would be being paid next to nothing for there harvest what they our paid without Fairtrade is not even enough to live on Fairtrade have several value they also support the environment as they help support farmer who work in counties which need extra support they encourage organic growth which support the planet
Please these three video which I use in talk with Youth and adults with the Christian Community
16
Environmental demands dilemma
Water is the key to life and without this valuable resource we
would not be able to survive As a species we our growing so
our dependants for a resource is growing but the amount of the
resource is not so we our having to use way to conserve water
such as filtering reusing water saving devices this all helps
support the environment and use as well as saving water
reducing our bills
17
Methods of saving and not using foul
fuels The way in which we make electricity to go into the national grid is by
breaking down the atomic structure of foul fuels which have been created
in the soil This is a depleting resource one way in which you can create
electric for your own use and become more eco is using solar panels as this
allows you to create electric and you can use it for heating Solar power is an important development as this allows you to be more self sustainable as
foul foils will run out so new ways of powering our lives is essential You are
also able to sell any unused energy to the national grid Business can use
solar panels to support themselves to be more sustainable and reduce there
carbon emissions

Sustainable Development
Whitbread Premier inn our a chain hotel which our environmental aware they as they produce Electrical targets and run a Good together scheme which focuses management of individual hotels to reduce electrical cost by having green WinCard which our audit points if they our all green the team and members of the hotel get a weeks pay free They ensure that hotel are running at environmental friendly by install coverts to the electrical supply which brings down the voltage make it us less energy output from 140 to 120 for every hotel They also install electrical sectors to turn lights of in bedrooms when doors close and when people stop moving after time in area and corridors they also install water efficient appliances like better dishwashers
19
Business how theology effects
In this modern era business can be highly effected by guest
impact though review sites as guest become more
economically ware they will want more eco based hotels
There our websites which rate the eco status which can highly
effect customer views Websites like Trip Advisor now rate and
grade hotels on there eco status This impacts in many ways
thought customer sales and if a business is more eco based they
will be more profitable as there overhead cost our lower
20
21
StakeholdersBusiness have several stakeholders which influence a business from the staff to the owner they are all stakeholders even the customer become a form of a stake holder in the business
Even though many people are stakeholders in the same business
They have conflicting perceptions meaning in terms of economical stainability they have different ideas for example the Owner will l want to ensure all cost are low and everything is running a peak productivity with max results from little input The staff will be focused on customer and striving to make life for them good so they may not care as much if lights are on or off Customer will be looking to have as much fun and value for money so they will not overall care what is left on or how many towels are used
So to try and stop conflicting stakeholder ship using sensors for lights and eco equipment helps to ensure that all stakeholders are working together to ensure quality of service as well as ensuring stainability
22
Recourse business need
Water
Gas
Electricity
These are essential to any business in Hospitality as they our the
cornerstones to the services and products a hotel or restaurant or
event company provide
23
Balance of communities
Its is important for any business when starting up to look at the
location one to ensure that the business would be successful in
the local and to ensure it fits in with the local community It is
also important for any tourist attraction or business to develop
with the community in sustainability and profitability A poor
example of understand stakeholder which causes conflict is
megaflop which several years ago was a tropical island with
many local but now is a night club seen which cause great
difficult for the local do to the tourists This is why when creating
a busyness you must do a environmental impact assessment to
judge the community and viability of the business
24

Anyone within these businesses could use this report to improve there business
and support the environment
ldquoThe earth will not continue to offer its harvest except with faithful stewardship We cannot say we love the land and then take steps to destroy it for use by future generationsrdquo― Pope John Paul II

24
Summary

difference to the quality of life in terms of pollution and being more environmentally friendly One hotel has does not have a huge significant impact on the environment but collectively as a industry w throw away 287 million tonnes of rubbish and 46 of it could have been recycled It is also estimated that 920000 tonnes of this overall figure the equivalent to 13 billion meals is wasted

Buying Organic food means that you our
buying something that has grow or lived as
close to natural as possible buying locally so
at local market help support the environment
as when we buy food products that need to
be shipped across the world this useless fusel
fouls which is harmful to our climate
Buying locally also support the communities
which we live in by keeping value resources
and economy within the local area
supporting local development
When we buy items which have been
shipped this becomes an environmental
issue so it is 100 positive to buy locally to
support ourselves and our communities
If we donrsquot buy locally this impacts the
environment our own community suffers
and we are not getting as fresh product
We also have organisations like Fairtrade
which support local growth and Fairtrade for
each person so that the farmers get a fair
price
Buying Locally How this helps the Environment communities and ourselves
15
Fairtrade
Fairtrade is a charity organisation which was founded as they found that farmer would be being paid next to nothing for there harvest what they our paid without Fairtrade is not even enough to live on Fairtrade have several value they also support the environment as they help support farmer who work in counties which need extra support they encourage organic growth which support the planet

Positives and Negatives of Suitable
developmentPositives Lowering costs
Being able to be part of the eco tourism market
More and more guest are aware of the environmental issues and our looking to stay in a economical place
Being able to provide extra services such as house bottle water thought scheme and inchoatives which support the community
Negatives The initial cost of becoming
greener and more self suitable
Possible thinking that you have to compromise quality for guest

Method of reducing waste Install Water effective saving shower head
Water saving shower heads mix water with air to reduce the amount of water emitted reducing the amount of water The Shower heads controls the flow and spray pattern of water They come in a range of shapes and sizes and the design can directly affect water consumption
Use less towels
Instead of putting 4 towels in a room for one person put one or two as I you put more they donrsquot really need 4 but as they are in the room they will need to be washed
Reduce electrical use by

Carbon Footprint
Shower heads
Its is a good option to switch to a water saving
shower head as it reduces the water us lowering
the cost and improve your carbon footprint Its
allows guest to clean more effectively as they
have a bigger head
This is what you
could save
9
Why you should reduce your carbon
footprintPositives Helping improve the air

24

Water
Gas
Electricity
These are essential to any business in Hospitality as they our the
cornerstones to the services and products a hotel or restaurant or
event company provide

with the community in sustainability and profitability A poor
example of understand stakeholder which causes conflict is
megaflop which several years ago was a tropical island with
many local but now is a night club seen which cause great
difficult for the local do to the tourists This is why when creating
a busyness you must do a environmental impact assessment to
judge the community and viability of the business

Buying Organic food means that you our
buying something that has grow or lived as
close to natural as possible buying locally so
at local market help support the environment
as when we buy food products that need to
be shipped across the world this useless fusel
fouls which is harmful to our climate
Buying locally also support the communities
which we live in by keeping value resources
and economy within the local area
supporting local development
When we buy items which have been
shipped this becomes an environmental
issue so it is 100 positive to buy locally to
support ourselves and our communities
If we donrsquot buy locally this impacts the
environment our own community suffers
and we are not getting as fresh product
We also have organisations like Fairtrade
which support local growth and Fairtrade for
each person so that the farmers get a fair
price
Buying Locally How this helps the Environment communities and ourselves
15
Fairtrade
Fairtrade is a charity organisation which was founded as they found that farmer would be being paid next to nothing for there harvest what they our paid without Fairtrade is not even enough to live on Fairtrade have several value they also support the environment as they help support farmer who work in counties which need extra support they encourage organic growth which support the planet
Please these three video which I use in talk with Youth and adults with the Christian Community

They have conflicting perceptions meaning in terms of economical stainability they have different ideas for example the Owner will l want to ensure all cost are low and everything is running a peak productivity with max results from little input The staff will be focused on customer and striving to make life for them good so they may not care as much if lights are on or off Customer will be looking to have as much fun and value for money so they will not overall care what is left on or how many towels are used
So to try and stop conflicting stakeholder ship using sensors for lights and eco equipment helps to ensure that all stakeholders are working together to ensure quality of service as well as ensuring stainability
