DESCRIPTION

Presentation in session 111 during the World Sustainable Building Conference 2014 in Barcelona (28-30th .Oct. 2014) The theme of the WSB14 was: "Sustainability. Are we moving as quickly as we should? It is up to us!" Session 111 (out of 144 sessions) had to answer the question: "Are we moving in the same direction?" This presentation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, gives an overview of the policies and tools in place for declaring environmental performance on construction products and buildings. This presentation was one out of the 5 from this session 111. After a questioning, answering and discussion with the audience the session concluded: "No, we are not moving in the same direction!" see WSB14-Sessions 111-0 to 111-4

Role of Building Products within BNB (German Assessment System for Sustainable Buildings)

Topics of Sustainable Building from the perspective of public administration

Development of sustainability assessment systems for other applications (eg, green campus)

Development of further methods, indicators, tools and databases

Development of instruments for exchange of experiences, public relations, etc.

Integration of the building sector into the national sustainability strategy

Formulation of objectives for international cooperation and international competition

Improvement of education and training

Improvement of the cooperation with associations of the building sector regarding the further development of sustainable building in Germany

The Guideline for Sustainable Building was implemented into the practical work of theFederal Building Authorities

The Assessment System Sustainable Building (BNB) has been successfully applied for federal buildings

Sustainable procurement is a fundamental principle of the of the Federal Government in Germany

The federal government will support the Federal States and municipalities in the implementation of sustainability assessment.

BNB - implementation of the national sustainability strategy.

Research Initiative “Future Building” of BMUB will promote further development of methods and tools for sustainability assessment.
