What is E-Waste?

An electronic product that somebody doesn’t want any more, so people throw it out

Why is it such a problem?

• The rapid rise in technology and decreasing lifespan of devices means that the amount of e-waste is increasing rapidly!

• Electronics contain numerous toxins that can leak into the ground or water supplies when tossed into a landfill!

• When electronic devices are thrown into landfills or exported illegal, hackers get a chance to obtain sensitive information from your phone

What do you do with it?

RECYCLE!!

What can be done?• Local governments,

manufacturers and retailers can partner with recyclers to dispose of it safely!

• Staples and Best Buy both offer buy-back and mail-in programs!

• New York has an e-cycle NYC program that has provided more than 1 million New Yorkers with e-waste pickup and recycling at no charge to taxpayers

What can I do? • Focus on the end-

of-life of their devices!

• Partner with electronic recyclers
