The successful PowerTrunk-T architecture, leading the TETRA market in North America, now incorporates LTE technology in its design to complement its narrowband offering, positioning itself as the next-generation infrastructure for mission critical users.

The new core equipment of the PowerTrunk infrastructure features both narrowband TETRA and broadband LTE services in a unified network design. The solution incorporates a 100% in-house designed LTE technology platform, built on top of the common components and architecture of the existing TETRA infrastructure.

A single-core network optimizes CAPEX and OPEX by sharing hardware elements and implements a single NMS which provides networks administrators with all subscriber and network management capabilities to configure, monitor, and check the performance of all TETRA and LTE system elements through a user-friendly and powerful powerful graphic interface.

A hybrid control node can be deployed, incorporating the latest-generation ATCA hardware platform, delivering state-of-art switching capabilities for voice and data TETRA communications as well as LTE broadband services.

Additionally, different form-factors for the TETRA and LTE node are available to meet every deployment scenario, with the ability to share common elements such as cabinets, networking components and hardware modules.

When interoperability with legacy systems or other agencies is a must, eConnect features include from simple talkgroup-to-talkgroup voice patching interconnection to more comprehensive integration that enables other services such as private calls, encryption services, data transmission, or DGNA.

SBS, Site Base Station: With 75 watts of RF output power from each repeater and triple receiver diversity, the SBS delivers the best TETRA network coverage performance available.

TETRA MBS, Mast-Mounted Base Station: The MBS is a complete single-carrier TETRA base station, permitting fully outdoor operation under the harshest weather conditions where the use of indoor equipment is unadvisable. Its modular design allows it to be easily upgradable with an additional MBS unit for extra traffic capacity, and the fan-less ‘one-box’ design reduces installation cost and facilitates maintenance operations.

eNodeB in a single LTE MBS: PowerTrunk can supply an eNodeB in a single box to help TETRA customers to easily upgrade their systems. The unit can be installed on towers or wall-mounted with minimum cost. Its excellent design does not require any additional unit to be placed at the bottom of the tower. These advantages considerably reduce installation costs, making the MBS a very cost-effective system. In eNodeB configuration, it features a 10 + 10 watts configuration with MIMO capabilities.

DBS, Deployable Base Station: The DBS is an outdoor unit of reduced dimensions and is easily transportable. It can be quickly deployed anywhere it is needed to set up a new coverage area or provide additional traffic capacity. It can host up to two TETRA carriers, a hybrid configuration with TETRA and LTE, or two eNodeBs. It is able to work in either a multisite system or as a stand-alone unit, in which case the DBS is itself capable of switching and managing the radio communication services among the local users within its coverage area.

PBS, Portable Base Station: The MBS, either TETRA or LTE, may be converted into a portable base station by using a two-wheeled trolley to facilitate transportation and allow users to effortlessly move it over all kind of surfaces. The PBS is the best fit for first responders for public safety incidents, making it possible to quickly deliver TETRA or LTE coverage to shadow areas or to replace damaged communication infrastructure.

PowerTrunk complements its infrastructure offering with a set of radio terminals and accessories to provide unmatched performance to Public Safety professionals. Ranging from TETRA handheld, mobile, and desktop terminals to LTE terminals, including dual-mode TETRA + LTE terminals, PowerTrunk users can benefit from varied functionalities such as mission critical voice and data, live video transmission, GPS positioning, and mission critical push-to-talk. Compatibility with TETRA terminals from third-party manufacturers is guaranteed through interoperability (IOP) certificates obtained through independent laboratory testing according to the IOP certification process managed by the TCCA.

PowerTrunk’s HTT-500-2 hand portable and MDT-500-2 mobile TETRA/P25 radios operate in the 764-869 MHz band (excluding the NPSPAC channels in the 806-809/851-854 MHz sub-band) in full compliance with the relevant FCC Rules in relation to nationwide interoperability. CYBERSECURITY: PowerTrunk includes in its portfolio a full range of licenses and services focused on cyber securing the end-to-end solution deployed for Public Safety market. Based on least privilege policies and combined with physical and logical protection methods, we can supply among others: the penetration testing certification, patching & antimalware update service, monitoring service or disaster recovery services.

E2EE (End-to-End Encryption): The PowerTrunk E2EE solution provides all the encryption, decryption, key management, and key storage services required for use in a TETRA communication system and meets the security requirements for cryptographic modules according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). PowerTrunk offers a complete E2EE solution composed of subscriber terminals, infrastructure gateways, voice call recording, and key management tools that address the cryptographic needs of the network.

SDM: The massive incorporation of data in systems initially designed to support voice applications may affect the normal operation of the system. For instance, with the common built-in GPS receivers in TETRA radios, users expect to have a real-time location service without disrupting network voice operation. With SDM (Synchronous Data Manager), PowerTrunk has developed an optimized polling procedure that avoids typical collisions when transmitting data in random access technologies. The optimized polling method integrated in the PowerTrunk system allows reducing up to 60% of the channels that would be necessary compared to an asynchronous solution.

VIDEO SOLUTIONS: Mobile video and integration with existing CCTV systems is an emerging need in the response to critical emergencies, and thus our command & control solutions integrate access to video streams through open and standardized methods.

MVC-6000: This is a multi-technology vehicular console designed to provide a single MMI for first responders. All services are delivered seamlessly through various wireless technologies such as TETRA, WiFi, LTE, and others. It offers advanced radio management, web browsing, mobile CAD functions, office applications, GPS navigation, and integrated video solutions, including recording capabilities, and receiving and transmitting real-time video.

MCPTT SOLUTION: This is a professional PTT solution fully integrated with the PowerTrunk infrastructure and aligned with the 3GPP MCPTT standard. It enables mission critical communication between TETRA users and LTE devices.

Utilities, oil & gas, and mining companies are not an exception and have been adopting TETRA as their new-generation radio technology when replacing legacy analog radio systems.

Real-time asset and personnel tracking can be used for monitoring and optimizing the routes and speed of heavy machinery in a mining operation, providing customized evacuation messages in a refinery, or augment job safety for utility transmission line workers through the built-in man-down functionality of the TETRA subscriber radios.

SCADA applications often require small amounts of data that can be transmitted through the radio network enabling data points where the private broadband network is not available. A wide variety of applications are already installed and commissioned using dedicated TETRA RTU equipment with built-in SCADA protocols, for example, for line switching control, transformer station monitoring, meter reading, level monitoring for pumping stations, water tanks, and water reservoirs, etc.
