1. FOOD GROUPS
• FOOD GROUPS CAN BE CLASSIFICATED ACCORDING TO:
ORIGIN: ANIMAL OR VEGETAL
ORGANISM FUNCTIONS: ENERGETIC, STRUCTURALS, REGULATORY…
DEPENDING ON THEIR NUTRIENT CONTENT: MILK, MEAT AND FISH, VEGETABLES…
• NOW, WE WILL FOLLOW A SORT OUT, DEPENDING ON THEIR NUTRIENT CONTENT:
MILK AND DAIRY PRODUCTS.
MEAT, FISH, EGGS AND VEGETABLES.
PATOTOES, CEREALS AND VEGETABLES.
VEGETABLES.
FRUITS.
FATS, OILS AND NUTS.
SWEETS AND SUGAR SWEETS. **
2. SUGAR: CHARACTERISTICS
Sugars are simple carbohydrates that are absorbed quickly by our organism. Sugar is
composed in a 99% by saccharose.
Their energetic input is 4 kcal per each 1 g.
Is a food called: “empty calories”, due to their provide us energy, but does not provide us of
nutrients.
When sugar performance with itself, it does not provide us minerals and vitamins, however if it
is consumed with other foods, like fruits or milk, does.
It is used as a sweetener with different food like: sweets, biscuits….
Choosing a concret type of sugar does not change their nutritional content. All type of sugars
have got the same nutritional content.
3. CHOCOLATE: CHARACTERISTICS
Food made with cocoa, sugar and other foods like nuts, fats…
Dairy products can or can not be used by their elaboration.
It has a high content in fats (30 – 55%).
It has a high content in carbohydrates (50% approximately).
It is rich in group B Vitamins.
It is rich in minerals: iron, potassium, calcium and phosphorous.
It energetic value are about 55 kcal for each 1g.
4. HONEY: CHARACTERISTICS
In it content, it has much less carbohydrates than sugar, due to it included water in it
composition..
It has not got practically any content in vitamins and minerals.
It has a lot of nutritive qualities.
5. FOODS OF THIS GROUP
Different foods that take part in this group are:
Different types of sugar: white and brown sugarde azúcar.
Honey: molasses…
Chocolates: bars, cocoa powder, chocolate, milk chocolate, nougat…
Jam.
Jelly.
Sweets: chewing-gums, icre creams….
Pastries: strudel, chocolate cake, fruit cake, cakes ...
6. CONSUME ADVICE AND ASSOCIATED PROBLEMS
As we explained in “Food pyramid” post, we must not eat lots of foods of this group. It is
recommendable not consuming an intake over than 10% of this food group per day
A abusive consumption of this food group could provoque:
Dental caries.
Weight gain.
Problems related with obesity and heart and diabetes issues.
Decrease fruits consumption, and consequently make a less healthy diet.
As a result, we must know some basic patterns to achieve a better feeding.
Make a low consumption per week of this food group (sweets and sugar).
If we drink beverage like tea or cofee, we must reduce the amount of sugar.
Change sugar products for fruits, vegetables and natural juicies.
