VETERANS DAY 2016

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day–a common misunderstanding, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Memorial Day (the fourth Monday in May) honors American service members who died in service to their country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle, while Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

MEMORY: Tops In Blue.  Carolyn and Group landed at Thule, Greenland where they were

briefed that as part of an annual inspection tour, the Queen and Prince of Denmark were

expected to be in attendance at our show that evening.  The theatre was old and had an aisle

running down the center of the room and a landing across the center.   Where they

intersected, a red carpet was laid out which was roped off.  Inside the roped area were 4 chairs, one for the Queen, one for the Prince, one for

the Queen’s Lady-In-Waiting, and the last for the Prince’s Valet.  .  Following the show, they came

up on stage, met each of us and graciously conveyed with delight with our performance.  It

was the finest moment in Carolyn’s career.
