Social Policy and Social Schemes for the Poverty in Taiwan since
2000
Abstract This paper analyzes what policy and social schemes both
in cash and in kind have targeted for the poor since 2000, and
looks into future development in next decade. What factors have
been involved in policy development The fundamental change in
policy for the poor is the revision of the social assistance law in
2010, which redefines the criteria for poverty line becoming basic
threshold for many welfare entitlements ranging from cash
allowance, medical aid, housing subsidy to employment assistance.
This paper draws basic statistics of poverty in Taiwan for
cross-society comparisons.
