Golf Cart Safety
For the safety of the athletes, volunteers, spectators, and everyone involved or a[ending the Golf compe44on at the Special Olympics Word Games Los Angeles 2015, it is essen4al to understand the importance of golf cart safety. Most of our carts are gas operated carts which means they are noisy and also leap and lurch upon stepping on the gas pedal. Travel at slow speeds during play and watch out for golfers and coaches at all 4mes. Remember, not all athletes speak English.
Main Hazards associated with motorised transport
• Accidents with spectators • Accidental damage to third party property • Crowd control at bus drop off and load zones • Cleaning operations using motorised vehicles
Driving of golf carts • A common cause of accidents at major sport events
– Approved drivers only for golf carts – Too many persons riding the golf cart – Driving too fast – Reversing without looking – Driving golf carts in large crowds of spectators – Carrying large boxes / parcels on the back of golf carts
HONORED GUESTS BRAND STANDARDS Radio Communication

• If your posi4on requires radio usage you will be provided with one before you are deployed to your post by your Manager. This radio will need to be returned at the end of each shiU to your Manager.
• Always consult with your Manager ini4ally if there is an issue. • Please be courteous when communica4ng by radio. Do not talk over others and
keep the communica4on concise. • If communica4on is needed to a radio user on a different channel this will be
allowed and you will receive radio training to ensure you are shown how to do this.
• Please do not use personal cell phones unless in the case of an emergency or if specifically instructed to do so by your Manager.
Emergency Procedures
HOW TO RESPOND TO A MEDICAL SITUATION: If extreme medical condi4on or the person is unresponsive please call 911 and then find a LAPD officer, LAFD or Games Manager. On-‐site personnel will provide a much more rapid response in case of an emergency. If a phone isn't immediately available find the nearest public safety personnel or anyone in a Special Olympics uniform. If the medical incident is minor (bumps, cuts, bruises etc) in nature please alert your immediate supervisor who will contact Medical personnel for assistance. Stay with the athlete un4l medical assistance arrives. BASIC EMERGENCY PROCEDURES In the event of any emergency contact the closest Games official or LAPD officer. Call 911 AFTER no4fying the on-‐site official and then follow up by no4fying your immediate supervisor.
Evacuation Procedures
Should the need arise to Evacuate the golf course, in the case of a brush fire for instance, you will be no4fied by your manager and/or Games Official. If your posi4on is around the clubhouse, that will be the first posi4on of evacua4on. If you are on-‐course you will be evacuated to the maintenance parking lot off of Hole 4 on Wilson. We will congregate in the parking lot or play ground across the street, wherever directed. If it is necessary to evacuate all volunteers will be no4fied and you can begin to move to these two safe haves. Games Officials and Rules Officials will assist players and coaches to exit the course at the same 4me.
