5 Emphasis Areas:

Young Drivers Occupant Protection Impaired Driving Infrastructure & Operations Vulnerable Road Users

Young Driver Emphasis AreaFatality and Serious Injury Goal: Reduce young driver (ages 15-24) fatalities from the current average of 31 per year to 25

by 2016, which ensures the South Central Region links to the statewide goal of reducing fatalities by half by 2030.

Objective 1: Increase awareness of the costs and consequences of dangerous driving behaviors (e.g. not wearing a seat belt, impaired driving or riding with an impaired driver, speeding, texting, etc.) among 15 – 20 year olds.

Strategy 1.3: Create and implement public information campaign for middle and high schools.

1.3.3 LSP-C, Parish School Boards Partner with School Boards to host a safety video/photo contest for all high schools in the region.

Objective 1: Increase seatbelt use public information and education programs in the South Central Region and coordinate with law enforcement events.

Strategy 1.1: Promote proper installation of child safety seats, proper child restraints, and general child safety.

1.1.1 Child Passenger Safety Technicians headed by CPS Region C coordinator Mike Toups (HPD)

Host Child Passenger Safety (CPS) seat inspection events to educate the parents about proper installation and use of car seats

Host 8 CPS Seat Checks throughout the region including one (1) for CIOT Mobilization in May and one (1) for National Seat Check Saturday.

Fatality and Serious Injury Goal: Reduce unbelted fatalities from the current average of 34 per year to 28 by 2016, which ensures the South Central Region links to the statewide goal of reducing fatalities by half by 2030.

Performance Measures: Number of fatalities, Number of serious injuries.
