Indexing• New criteria towards professionalization and internationalization e.g editorial boards and reviews and associate editors

– already the case in SA

• Multilingualism – emphasis on more English, especially Brazil collections—should have full text in English

• Manuscript processing – for and statistics—During 2015 all journals will be encouraged to use a manuscript processing system e.g. OJS –so provide an audit trail of processes, rejection rate stats, publication rates, reviewers used, etc.

• Performance – citations, downloads, altmetrics. The SciELO portal is working on improving this and will let SciELO SA know what we can do.

• A new SciELO platform has been develop. SciELO SA will test the platform.

Production – platform of common services• The use of an online manuscript processing system – OJS and ScholarOne – needs to become a priority

• Text editing, copydesk, translation—SciELO wants to develop a portal for authors and editors for the preparation of manuscripts. Still uncertain of how it will work.

• Markup: SciELO is moving towards the JATS Schema which works with XML. This is a major change. SciELO SA will work with the company Caboverde (which is a fully certified SciELO company). Focus on the XML version being the original format of the article. Brazil is first investigating interoperability problems. They will first focus on the Health Sciences and testing with PubMed Central and the National Library of Medicine.

• .• PDF and ePUB can be generated automatically from the XML . SciELO is developing this software – it is complex. SA will start with this during 2015. Will involve training. Smaller journals will need assistance. XML conversion can be outsourced. An Australian company ,TypeFi, has a system that generates automatic PDF and ePUB from XML. SciELO is evaluating the costs of purchasing the system.

Publishing• New SciELO web interface is still being modified—more state of the art in terms of web interfaces. Target : Januar y or

March 2015.

• Mobile applications: weekly dissemination of what is new in SciELO

• Blog “’SciELO in Perspective” dealing with topics such as Social Sciences and Humanities; scholarly communication, etc.

• Interoperability—Google Scholar, CrossRef, WoS, SCOPUS—XML will assist in this regard to make metadata available.

• ScholarOne, AGRIS, LAILACS, GLOCKKS---SciELO has a pending contract with them –still reviewing the costs. SciELO SA will investigate this as well.

IT platform• The new platform they are developing is still being tested.

• The new platform will allow the new developments indicated above.

• New interface – country collection will be able to customise their own interface using API.This will give countries more independence

• Cloud computing features are being introduced to do away with down-time of collections.
