Bursitis: 10 Signs You May Have Bursitis
WHAT IS BURSITIS?
Bursitis primarily affects joints in your feet and
lower body.
Bursitis is named after your bursa, which are
fluid-filled cushions that protect your body’s
joints. These cushions help you:• Absorb shock• Keep your joints moving smoothly• Prevent irritation from where your tendons
and ligaments pass over your bones
When your bursa become inflamed and your
ability to absorb shock decreases, the area
around your joints also becomes irritated and
inflamed.
So how do you know if you have bursitis?
Look for the following 10 signs.
1. Do you feel pain in any of your joints?
2. Are any of your joints inflamed or swollen?
3. Do you feel heat emanating from the painful area?
4. Can you only move your joint in a limited fashion, or not at all?
5. Are your muscles weakened around the joint?
6. Do you feel increased joint pain in the morning, or after not moving the joint for a long period of time?
7. Have you recently experienced a trauma, such as a sports injury?
Or have you experienced too much repetitive motion of your joints, such as from over-exercising?
These final 3 signs apply to bursitis specifically located in the joints of your feet.
8. Do your feet ache?
9. Do you have difficulty moving your feet?
10. Are the joints of your feet inflamed or swollen?
If you answered yes to all of most of these
questions, you may have bursitis in your
feet. For a proper diagnosis, be sure to consult
your health care professional.
