Pantawid Pamilya is one of the responses of the Philippine Government to the challenge of meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

• The MDGs are eight (8) pledges to free people from hunger and disease and enlarge freedoms

• MDGs come from the Millennium Declaration signed by 189 countries,Philippines being one, including 147 heads of state and government in September 2000

Pantawid Pamilya is patterned after the conditional cash transfer programs in Latin American and the Carribbean which have been proven successful as a poverty reduction and social development measure.

• Social Assistance Provide assistance to the poor to alleviate

their immediate needs (short term).

Residents of the poorest municipalities based on 2003 Small Area Estimates (SAE) of NSCB

Households that have children 0-14 years old and/or have a pregnant woman at the time of assessment (6-14 years old children must be in school

Criteria in the Selection of Households

Eligible households are:

Households whose economic condition is equal to or below the provincial poverty threshold

4 Households that agree to meet conditions specified in the program

The poorest households are selected through a Proxy Means Test (PMT) which determines the socio-economic category of families.

Health and Nutrition GrantP6,000 per year or P500 per

month per household

month per child for 10 months a year, to a maximum of 3 children per household

Pantawid Pamilya provides conditional cash grants to beneficiaries, through Landbank cash card, to wit:

A household with three qualified children receives a subsidy of P1,400/month during the school year or P15,000 annually as long as they comply with the conditionalities

HEALTH AND NUTRITION• Pregnant Household Member

– visit their local health center to avail of pre- and post-natal care.

– avail of appropriate delivery services by a skilled health professional

– avail at least one post-natal care within 6 weeks after childbirth

• Children 0-5 Years Old– visit the health center to

avail immunization– have monthly weight

monitoring and nutrition counseling for children aged 0-2 years old

– have quarterly weight monitoring for 25 to 73 weeks old

• A system that monitors how faithfully the beneficiaries comply with the conditions set by the 4Ps program. • It processes compliance data until it is ultimately used as basis for payment of cash grants of beneficiaries
