Learners will compare patient’s history of disease to diagnostic tests and demonstrate testing skills. Flipped classroom reading from course textbooks and materials including videos and industry webinars delivered through the college Blackboard system. Worksheets: Medical terminology and abbreviations. Matching diseases with complaints and testing. Mock patient exams. Online discussion boards: Introduction Webinars Formative and Summative exams for grade and student feedback Formative feedback on worksheets and mock exams Feedback in discussion boards Grading discussion board topics participation Applying Knowledge Learners will use proper patient care skills to communicate information and to solicit pertinent information regarding the patient’s medical history. Learners will perform various diagnostic tests using ophthalmic equipment and instruments to assist the eye practitioner in assessing visual abnormalities. Six hours a week of lab to practice skills. Complete different scenarios on new patient information forms. Lab presentation: Teach an element of performing an eye exam or taking medical history. Complete EMR simulator assignments. Summative: Skills demonstration checked off by instructor(s) and clinical coordinator Mentoring by a second-year student on skills Formative: Written exams Skills demonstration exams

Learners will develop organizational skills to develop an effective sequencing of taking the medical history. Learners will develop an awareness of the critical thinking when taking a medical history and completing a full eye exam.
