Infection control technology is starting to grow in leaps and bounds, even if not all
healthcare facilities are utilizing everything that's available. Take a look at a few emerging
pieces of technology that could considerably lower the threats of infections in medical facilities over the next few years.
HyGreen Hand Hygiene Recording System
A company called HyGreen has invented a device that detects whether medical personnel
have washed their hands or not before surgery takes place. Using sensor equipment, staff
wear badges on their person that vibrate as a hand-washing reminder. Staff initially place
their hands under the monitor's sensor (placed on a wall) so it can detect whether hands
are clean.
This device even keeps accurate record of who washes their hands and who doesn't. In all,
it makes sure absent-mindedness doesn't turn the act of washing hands into a forgetful practice.
Meditrox Decontamination Device
Whole room decontamination devices have been around a while, but a company in the UK
called Meditrox has advanced the technology to make it much easier. Their device emanates
a dry ozone vapor that gives a more thorough clean of surfaces in the room once the windows and doors are shut. They even give a demonstration of the device on Youtube.
The 3M Luminometer
3M has been around forever, and their new Clean-Trace NG Luminometer is one of their
latest inventions. Its convenience comes in being a handheld device that can detect whether
surfaces are clean or not in medical rooms. The device can also detect contamination in water tests with immediate results.
Software is built inside to keep a track record of steps taken to deal with contamination.
This includes storing records of previous results to show improvement.
