9 ESSENTIAL AMINOACIDS YOUR BODY CAN’T LIVE WITHOUTGreenKale of ancient Danish type - is nature’s ultimate source of vegetable protein and fibrescontaining all nine essential amino acids which the body can’t synthesize on its own.

Some proteins, especially plant origin proteins, have been termed incomplete, because they do not contain the essential amino acids at the recommended level, while others, especially animal sourced proteins, typically contain higher levels of essential amino acids. Protein is a fundamental component of the body. Proteins are macromolecules, which are constructed in the body from chains of amino acids. Using the 20 primary amino acids the body constructs an overwhelming abundance of protein chains, each with a different order coded by our generic code. These chains interact and fold into specific three dimensional shapes to give

specialized functionality.

Proteins play both a structural and functionalrole in every body cell, which makes protein the most abundant component in the body afterwater. Muscle, especially the contractilemolecules in muscle that help us move, make up over 40% of our body protein whilehaemoglobin, a protein in blood responsible for transporting essential oxygen around the body, accounts for 16%. Protein also has an essentialfunction in every cell including the membranes, transporters, enzymes, components of the immune system, and is also a precursor to hormones. These components and tissues in the body arebeing broken down and re-built every day, resulting in protein turnover that requires a constant supply of amino acids in the diet.

As such, all 20 amino acids are required by the body every day to use as building blocksfor new proteins. Some of these amino acidscan be formed within the body, assumingthere are adequate substrate molecules, such as nitrogen. These amino acids arecalled dispensable, or non-essential, aminoacids – they are required by the body eachday but because our body can make them, they are not essential to be supplied via ourdiet. Conversely, nine of the amino acids areclassified as indispensable or essentialThese amino acids cannot be formed withinthe body, and must be supplied via our diet and found within the foods we eat everyday.

Essential (indispensable) amino acidsIsoleucine, leucine, lysine, valine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, histidine

Non-essential (dispensable) amino acidsGlycine, alanine, tyrosine, serine, cysteine, proline, glutamine, glutamic acid, asparagine, aspartic acid, arginine
