Green roof can reduce Urban Heat Island Effect and add

recreational square footage to building. In this project, planters

are constructed on 8th & 9th floor. Root barrier is used to protect

against roots from penetrating into the waterproofing layer.

MiraDRAIN 9000, which is placed over the Root Barrier, to drain

away excess water. This system can provide protection & water

management to the roof.

Root Barrier is a 0.41mm thickness membrane made from a layer

of tightly woven HDPE scrim with continues 0.05mm polymeric

coating on both sides. It doesn’t contain plasticizer that can

migrate to the surface and attack some asphalt-based materials.

It is light & will not add additional loading to the roof. In this project,

the planters are irregular shape, thus, relatively soft & foldable

Root Barrier is easy to be installed.

Loose-lay Root Barrier directly over the completed waterproofing

layer. Turn Root Barrier up vertical edges & flashings in all areas to

be covered by soil to totally protect the waterproofing system.

Lapping should be minimum 6” and adhered with any adhesive

that is compatible with polystyrene. Cut with suitable size at the

drain pot outlet. MiraDRIAN 9000 is then laid on the Root Barrier

directly.
