ADVANTAGES OF RECEIVER-IN-THE-EAR

(RITE) HEARING AIDS

Within the past five years or so, receiver-in-

the-ear (RITE) hearing aids have become increasingly popular and for good reason:

they provide many advantages over traditional behind-the-ear (BTE) and custom

in-the-ear (ITE) fit devices.

1. A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION OF THE OCCLUSION

EFFECT. The occlusion effect occurs when an earmold or hearing aid fills the outer portion of the ear canal. It results

in a boost of low frequency energy, causing a listener’s voice

to sound “funny” as though they are talking “in a barrel” or that the voice is “echoing.” The use of small vented domes

on the end of the receiver allows for the ear canal to be as open as possible resulting in a reduction of occlusion.

2. SMALL AND INCONSPICUOUS SIZE. The main portion

sits over the ear and a very thin wire, attached to the

casing, ends at the receiver which goes into to the ear canal. They are practically invisible.

3. THEY ARE COMFORTABLE. Premium comfort is the result of a lightweight design and well-vented dome …listeners

forget they are in.

4. THEY ARE DURABLE. One of the components most susceptible to damage is the receiver. The receiver is

attached to the case of the device by a thin wire which is easily removed and replaced in your audiologists’ office. This

results in less expensive repair costs and minimal waiting time.

5. CAN BE FIT FOR MILD TO SEVERE HEARING LOSSES. The dome is used for mild to moderate hearing losses while

the use of a custom earpiece increases the amount of sound available for moderately-severe to severe impairment.

With all of these benefits, it is easy to see why RITE hearing aids

are in such demand. Contact your local audiologist to discuss if

these devices are right for you.
