DESCRIPTION

Asara© is a two plus year old project run by Health Management and Research Institute and initially was funded by MacArthur Foundation and from March 2013 Piramal Foundation funding this project . It aims to decrease maternal mortality in Araku Valley, a tribal area in Andhra Pradesh, India. To reduce maternal mortality, Asara© trains community health workers to conduct education activities, trains traditional birthing attendants to attend deliveries, deploys paramedics and state-of-the-art technology to screen for and monitor risky pregnancies, and connects women with OB/GYNs via videoconferencing. Based on Asara’s© success, HMRI plans to scale this project throughout tribal areas of Andhra Pradesh and eventually India.

Paramedic team reaches respective habitations as per defined fixed date calendar

As per process, ANMs perform lab tests, fill out questionnaires, distribute drugs, and refer patients to the telehealth center the next day

The next day, beneficiaries are picked up and dropped back at predefined point.

Registration: Beneficiaries are registered by creating Unique IDs with their photo and fingerprint by Data Entry Operator.

With the help of HMRI algorithms, all beneficiaries’ health complaints are diagnosed by the doctor.

Clinical examination and lab findings are captured by the Telemedicine and Lab Technicians for doctor diagnosis.

Based on investigations, the specialist doctor prescribes drugs which can be printed at the patient end THC and freely distributed to beneficiaries.
