DESIGN FOR CHANGE

nNhy pWv, lwEy<gy bdlwvIt is very appropriately said that Change is an integral part of our life. But sometimes to bring a change in society, we need to take initiative to make that change to happen. But more interestingly, when that initiative comes from the small steps( nNhy pWv) focusing on big change that carries more weight-age & abundance of inspiration. That’s what happened at village Sherpur Kalan(jagraon), when the tiny tots of Govt. Satya Bahrti Adarsh Senior Secondary School of this village designed a programme to bring three fold change in their surrounding during the DESIGN FOR CHANGE week.

We felt

Many children go absent frequently because of

• Lack of Training & awareness about Cleanliness and hygiene

• Lack of sanitation and cleanliness in the village resulting spread of seasonal diseases

• Drug-Addiction-cause of illiteracy and other problems.

We ImaginedThe school designed a program in three phases to

bring three fold changes i.e. SSS (Tri’ple S)

Clean and Safe-

• SELF

• SURROUNDING &• SOCIEY

We didThe first phase

• Self awareness-Cleanliness & Hygiene

To cultivate this habit amongst the children, they were trained to be safe & clean hygienically so that they remain fit and healthy. They were given training of a healthy hygienic routine to be fit enough to be regular to their school.

The second phase • Cleanliness in the

village The children of the school took a

rally in the village based on the theme-Cleanliness & Sanitation-Need of the hour. They took round of the village chanting slogans and made the people aware about these aspects and its importance in our daily life. The second day under this theme, the children along with the school staff and vice-principal cleaned and cleared public places of the village and left a memorable impression full of motivation & inspiration for the villagers to keep their surrounding neat & clean.

The third and the last phase • Anti-Drug Addiction

Drive the children took a round of the

village chanting slogans against this evil & its bad impact on the society and especially on children of drug-addict parents suffering due to this evil. Such parents are least bothered about the study of their children and spend their earned money only for their drug-addiction. The students staged a thought-provoking skit based on the same theme and made the village-audience brood over the matter deeply. When a girl-student of the school ended-up the skit with a slogan in her hands saying (pwpw jI nw pIE Srwb,mYnMU lY idE iek ikqwb[)

“O Father! Don’t drink wine; instead buy me a book to shine.”

The life change in progress in village• Thus the last phase brought a big change in the society

initiated by small steps. Now the parents & Sarpanch of the village appreciate the efforts of the school as now, there is a ray of hope in the village that the number of drug-addicts in the village will decrease as many drug-addicts have started consulting with physicians of nearby

town to say Good bye to this evil of their self-destruction.• The students are trained to be fit & fine, Attendance

increased in the school.
