Oversized, sagging breasts are unattractive and can also cause

great physical discomfort such as pain in the neck, head and

shoulder, leading to poor posture and even emotional stress.

Breast Reduction or Reduction Mammaplasty is a specialized

surgical procedure that reduces the size of the breasts and

restores them to a shape that is more proportionate to the

body. This plastic surgery procedure is useful for women who

have large, sagging breasts and to resolve issues caused by the

condition such as breathing difficulties, skin irritation, and

even skeletal deformities.

What Breast Reduction Can Achieve

Breast reduction surgery reduces breast size by removing

excess fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breasts. The

breasts are reshaped to be small, firmer and lighter. With this

surgery, you can get your breasts shaped to suit your body,

thereby enhancing your physical appearance and confidence

level.

Women with breasts that are asymmetrical and

disproportionate to the body with nipples and areolas that

point downward can get this corrected with the surgery. It

may be also advised for women who experience skin

irritation, pain or restriction from different kinds of

physical activities due to large breast size. The procedure

can achieve the following

Reduction in areolar size

Reduced breast size and weight

Enhanced breast shape

Elevation of the breast mound and nipple –

areolar complex

The results of this individualized procedure are considered

permanent. But, the breasts may become larger or may

change in shape after pregnancy, weight loss, or weight

gain.

It is important for candidates to have realistic expectations

about the surgery. To undergo this procedure, women

candidates need to be at least 18 or 19 years of age when

their breasts are fully developed. The procedure is

performed under general anesthesia.

The Consultation

Choose a qualified and trained plastic surgeon to perform

the procedure. At the initial consultation, the surgeon will

evaluate your medical history and current health condition

as well as your goals regarding breast size and appearance.

It will be a great advantage if the plastic surgery practice is

equipped with 3D imaging technology which allows patients

to visualize the results of the procedure before it takes

place. For instance, the use of the superior Vectra 3D

imaging technology in breast reduction surgery allow

patients to view simulated before and after images of the

breasts so that they can be confident of the results.

This technology also helps the surgeon in preoperative

planning. It’s also important that you discuss the potential

risks and complications associated with the surgery at the

initial consultation. You should also ask about the costs of

the procedure.

Recovery

All types of plastic surgery involves risks, but you can

prevent complications to a great extent by carefully

following all pre – operative and post – operative instructions

given by your plastic surgeon. You will have dressings or

bandages on the area where the incisions are made. To

minimize swelling and to support healing, an elastic bandage

or support bra may have to be worn. Post-surgery, some pain

or discomfort is quite common which may last up to 1- 2

weeks. You should avoid any form of heavy lifting or

strenuous activities during the recovery period.
