synopsis10 years ago when the small town of Harmony experienced a horrible tragedy. A mine explosion trapped six miners in a shaft, one - Harry Warden - went crazy and pickaxed the other five to conserve air before falling into a coma. Warden waking from his year-long coma and going on a cross-town massacre cutting out the hearts of those he thought guilty. Warden is gunned down right before he tries to kill Tom Hanniger, the guy responsible for the mine explosion in the first place. Ten years later, Tom Hanniger returns to the town but he is still haunted by his near fatal run in with the rampaging Harry Warden. Tom feels really guilty because of the tragic. He didn’t know that he has another personality which shares the body of Harry Warden and started killing people as if he really is Warden. He tries to reveal the real murderer, which he suspected his old friend, Axel. But finally he realizes that the one who kill all those people was really him.

What is Dissociative Identity Disorder?

• Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is also known as personality disorder or split personality.

• This disorder is a condition in which a single person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment.

• DID diagnosis requires at least two personalities routinely take control of the individual's behavior with an associated memory loss that goes beyond normal forgetfulness

Because this disorder is chronic and pervasive, they can lead to serious impairments in daily life and functioning and is thought to be the result of very severe dissociation which causes a person to develop different personalities.

In My Bloody Valentine, Tom Hanniger, the one that experience dissociation, he was traumatized by the event 10 years ago and went missing before he came back and the killing in the town has started again. He is determined to find who the killer is that uses Harry Warden’s style of killing, when all that time it was him all along.

Our purpose of this research is to find out Tom Hanniger was affected by his past event and leads to the psychological order which is dissociative identity disorder.

TREATMENTS

Treatments The first goal of treatment is to

reduce symptoms and control the disturbing behavior.

Treatment aims to help the person safely express and process painful memories, develop new coping and life skills, restore functioning, and improve relationships.

The experts have found several effective treatments to treat this disorder.

Psychotherapy Primary treatment . Known as

‘talk therapy', counseling, or psychological therapy .

When the patient engage with this treatment, they will help by the therapist who are really understand them. This treatment usually successful because the patient encourage by the therapist to express their confusion, thought and emotional feelings.

Cognitive Treatment

Help the patients overcome difficulties by identifying and changing dysfunctional thinking, behavior, and emotional responses.

Help the patients develop skills for modifying beliefs, identify distorted thinking, and changing behaviors.

Medication

According to Encyclopedia of Mental Disorders, the experts cannot identify the specific prescription for DID,

The expert suggest : a)Take antidepressants, b)Tranquilizers These will help to control the

mental health symptoms and make the patients calm.

Alternate TreatmentHypnosis

Hypnosis is a treatment that uses intense relaxation and focused attention to achieve an altered state of consciousness.

Hypnosis allow the patients to explore thoughts and feelings.

CONLUSION

• Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a type of psychological disorder that can lead to serious impairments in daily life and functioning. 

• Tom Hanniger, was haunted by the tragedy that caused an accident in the tunnels. He’s been haunted by this feeling because he almost killed by the murderer, and it gives big impact to his emotion which develops stress and trauma.

Though DID is commonly known as the very serious psychological disorder, but the experts and the professional mental health have been determined some other ways to treat it. One of the most effective ways is by doing psychotherapy where the patient have the space to express their confusion, thought and emotional feelings. The treatment also can be followed by the other alternatives such as medication, hypnosis and cognitive therapy.
