DRUG VALIDATION Workshop in AYUSH systems

Training programme on Drug Validation in AYUSH System with Dr Robert Van Haselen was held on 21st and 22nd May, 2015 .

The workshop was organized by Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi

Venue: Auditorium, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, 68 Ashok Road.

Dr Robbert Van Haselen

Dr Robbert van Haselen provides consultancy services to pharmaceutical companies, and other organizations active in the Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) sector.

He offers high quality solutions for research related needs. He is Editor-in-Chief of the leading peer reviewed scientific CAM journal 'Complementary Therapies in Medicine' (www.complementarytherapiesinmedicine.com) which has an Impact Factor of 2.22

Dr Robbert Van HaselenHe is founder of the International Institute for Integrated Medicine (INTMEDI)He is trained both in CAM as well as in Epidemiology and has published extensively on CAM in both the conventional and the CAM scientific literature. 

Inaugural Ceremony

The workshop started with lamp lighting ceremony by all the dignitaries. Chief guest was Padamshri Dr. V. K. Gupta, Senior Homeopathic Physician. The occasion was graced by Dr Ishwar Basavareddi, Director MDNIY and Dr N. Mohanty, Senior Homeopathic Physician

During the inaugural ceremony, welcome address was give n by Dr R. K . Manchanda, DG, CCRH. He apprised the audience of importance of quality of data. Poor case taking leads to poor case recording with poor results in clinical records.

The participants were physicians and researchers from different unit of CCRH of various states, doctors from CGHS and from Delhi Govt . Following doctors were nominated nominated from Delhi Govt :

Dr Van Haslene started with importance of case reports. A case report is a detailed narrative that describes, for medical, scientific, or educational purposes, a medical problem experienced by one or several patients.

The CARE guidelines checklist is part of growing efforts to improve the reporting of a case reports.

Different specialties , practitioners, and patients are likely to require extensions of the CARE guidelines with specialty specific information.

During the workshop Dr Haslene suggested various possible guidelines for reporting a case covering most aspects of consultation and prescription.

He said case has to be reported in a way through which ‘patient perspective’ or ‘individual aspect’ is clearly reflected.

The CARE guidelines provide a framework to satisfy the need for precision, completeness, and transparency.

Dr Haselen told the audience that he has been further building upon the CARE guidelines which are considered the standard guidelines for case reporting to suit Homoeopathy.

According to Dr Haselen following this process will help the physician to be more self critical and also enable the practitioner to change and improve his/her practice. Hence gap between the researcher and the practitioner can be bridged by doctor himself.

During the work shop 6-7 case reports were distributed to each participant for reviewing. Each case was assessed using the HOM-CASE Extended CARE Guidelines checklist that he had proposed.

After this the modified Naranjo criteria form was to be filled by each one for doing the scoring and discussion held thereafter for any inconsistencies to validate the performa.

After discussion of the few selected case reports using HOM-CASE extended CARE guidelines and filling out Modified Naranjo Criteria, feedback on the experiences and observations of the group were called for during the wrap up session.

Next day session involved analyzing the ratings given in the modified Naranjo forms for any inconsistencies .

Further discussions were held for analyzing what is the general cause of inconsistencies in case recording.

In the end talks were held for possible future collaborations and next steps to be taken in this direction.
