Lumber Plexus

• Is formed inside Psaos Major with root value (L1, L2, L3, L4)

A. Femoral Nerve B. Obturator Nerve

Psaos Major

• Origin: side of (T2-L5)

vertebra and there’s discs.

• Insertion: lasser trochanter of femur

Psaos Major

• Innervations: Anterior rami of lumber nerve (L1, L2, L3)

• Action: Flexing + stabilizing hip joint

Femoral nerve- Arises from the lumbar plexus

- Descends within the groove between the psoasmajor and iliacusmuscles

- Lateral to the femoral artery as it enters the thigh

Femoral Nerve Supply the frontal area of the

thigh

Branch: A.Anterior cutaneus branch. B.Sapheneus nerve.

Sensation of the skin of the anterior and median aspect of the thigh

Injury: loss of sensation and sympathetic

Femoral nerve injury

Paralysis: Quadriceps femoris muscle.

Deformity: Flexion of the knee Sensation + Sympathetic: loss of

sensation and sympathetic of skin of the anterior and median aspect of the thigh and the skin of patella and median side of the leg and foot

Femoral nerve entrapments

• Herniation of inter vertebral discs (L2/L3 or L3/L4)

• At the level of inguinal ligament (femoral nerve neuropathy)

This may result in:• Weak extension of the knee• Weak patellar tendon reflex (L4 level reflex)• Cutaneous sensory changes (anterior thigh &

L4 dermatome)
