Future of Surrogacy in India

Surrogacy is nothing new to India but it is not very much open either. The culture of womb renting is going on from ages between sisters, friends and relatives etc within women but is not very openly practised. Having problems in parenthood even today seem to be a curse and treatments are seldom carried out in the rural parts. But slowly and steadily the surrogate culture is gaining more and more popularity. The concept proving to be very useful and healthy is accepted on urban fronts. The baby being from the genetically same background as that of parents makes it even more credible. Somehow but surrogate mothers status is not in a very good condition, especially of those who do consider as a profession.

For the present state as well as the improving trends there are basically two aspects responsible:

Social AspectEven though it is legally accepted and warmly embraced the practice cannot reach the roots as long as the society does not accept it properly. There are many social activist and NGOS working for spreading awareness being a country of high level of illiterates or low level of education being amongst the major causes of the social unacceptability. The old misconceptions are these days breaking and even the people from the remote backgrounds are coming forth not only for the approval but also for assistance in making them have their right of being parents.

Economic Aspect Also, by the virtue of poverty this is being accepted. The professional surrogacy is mostly done by poor and rural women as this not only pays them and serves their families but also helps in attaining a good standard of living, healthy intake etc at least during the time the time when women rent their wombs and are supporting the life inside. This can be evolved as a noble and yet empowering and money enriching profession for the down trodden women in the country.

Thus, in the nutshell we can say that being a unique kind of raising progeny it might have had some problems in acceptance but with work of NGOs, activists, government support the surrogacy is being accepted and soon will rule out the sadness of empty wombs and packed toys by raising a country of happy parents. This on the other hand will help raising the standards of leaving as well as narrowing the gap of haves and have not in the society by filling the economical voids.
