Teen Sexual & Reproductive Health in NYC

• Pregnancy rates are declining but… – Higher than US average – Majority are unintended

• STI rates are high • Dual protection* is low

– Less than 11% at last sex (NYC YRBS, 2011)

* using condoms + other birth control together

Teens in NYC Program • Part of a mutli-faceted approach to

reduce unintended pregnancy

• Provide teens with the information, skills and resources to make healthy, informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health

– Began in the South Bronx in 2006; citywide in 2010

– Clinical Assessment & Teen Mystery Shopper Calls

• Preferred referral guide – Print, online*, via 311, mobile app – 60 qualifying health care providers

department, city public hospital system, and local chapters of professional organizations: – American Academy of Pediatrics – Academy of Family Physicians – Society for Adolescent Health and
