Limited Employer Branding Options

With its location in Orange County, UCI faces an incredibly competitive talent market, contending with major private sector employers like the Walt Disney Company, Allergan, Boeing and CKE International as well as public sector employers such as the Orange County government (the county’s top employer), the Federal Government (approximately 12k employees in Orange County), Chapman University and the California State University, Fullerton.

This competition requires UCI to position itself as an employer of choice for Orange County and the larger Southern &DOLIRUQLD�DUHD��DQ�HƪRUW�KLJKO\�LQFXPEHQW�RQ�GHYHORSLQJ�DQ�HƪHFWLYH�DQG�LPSDFWIXO�HPSOR\HU�EUDQG�VWUDWHJ\���

7KH�$76�&DQGLGDWH�SRUWDO��KRZHYHU��OLPLWHG�WKHVH�HƪRUWV�DV�LW�SURKLELWHG�8&,�IURP�FUHDWLQJ�EUDQGHG�MRE�SDJHV�RU�FDUHHU�portals and adding relevant, engaging content to support its branding initiatives. This limited UCI’s ability to showcase WKHLU�FDUHHUV�DQG�FXOWXUH�RQOLQH��VHYHUHO\�ZHDNHQV�WKHLU�DELOLW\�WR�HƪHFWLYHO\�FRPPXQLFDWH�RU�WDLORU�WKHLU�HPSOR\HU�YDOXH�SURSRVLWLRQ�WR�GLƪHUHQW�FDQGLGDWH�DXGLHQFHV�

Poor Candidate Experience

:LWK�GLƯFXOW\�ƬQGLQJ�DQG�VKDULQJ�MREV�DQG�OLWWOH�WR�QR�HPSOR\HU�EUDQGLQJ��FDQGLGDWH�H[SHULHQFH�ZDV�IXUWKHU�HURGHG�by the tedious, often frustrating process of applying for jobs on the UCI website. Search results were often incorrect, leading many candidates to abandon their search without submitting an application, or providing the information required for creating a sustainable talent pipeline.

(YHQ�WKRVH�FDQGLGDWHV�ZKR�ZHUH�DEOH�WR�VXFFHVVIXOO\�ƬQG�UHOHYDQW�MRE�SRVWLQJV�IDFHG�IXUWKHU�FKDOOHQJHV�ZLWK�completing and successfully submitting online applications. The ATS’ application process proved extremely FXPEHUVRPH��DQ�LQFUHGLEO\�WLPH�LQWHQVLYH�DQG�PDQXDO�SURFHVV�ZKLFK�UHVXOWHG�LQ�D�YHU\�KLJK�DSSOLFDWLRQ�GURS�Rƪ�UDWH��OLPLWLQJ�8&,oV�DYDLODEOH�SRRO�RI�DSSOLFDQWV���$GGLWLRQDOO\��WKH�RQOLQH�FDQGLGDWH�H[SHULHQFH�ZDV�H[WUHPHO\�LQFRQVLVWHQW��many web or mobile browsers were either prone to bugs or not supported by the ATS, and many candidates would receive an automated application acknowledgement when no application had been received, leading to confusion and further eroding UCI candidate experience.
