Background• Inadequate health education and barriers to
taking medications contribute to disparities
• Support groups have demonstrated success in chronic disease
• Pharmacists are well-positioned to facilitate this intervention
Intervention• Pharmacist-facilitated support groups
• First and last session are face-to-face with 10 weeks of online forum discussions in the middle
• 2 locations each with 5 cohorts of 10 participants
• 100 participants total
Research Questions and Approach
• What is the impact of pharmacist-facilitated online and face-to-face support groups on African American men?
• Targeted before and after surveys
• What is the feasibility and acceptability of this intervention?
• Semi-structured interviews with support group participants
Current Progress
• Enrollment ongoing in both communities
• Two initial support group meetings have occurred and online discussions have begun for these groups
• Data analysis will begin following group completion Summer 2016
