Why I have this color?

Jaundice is caused by increased amounts of bilirubin in the blood.

Bilirubin is a by-product of the daily natural breakdown and destruction of red blood cell in the body. The hemoglobin molecule that is released into the blood by this process is split, with the heme portion undergoing a chemical conversion to bilirubin.

Normally, the liver metabolizes and excretes the bilirubin in the form of bile. However, if there is a disruption in this normal metabolism and/or production of bilirubin, jaundice may result.

Causes of jundice

Pre-hepatic (before bile is made in the liver): Malaria, sickle cell cerise's, spherocytosis, thalassimia ,

deficiency (G6PD),drugs or other toxins, and autoimmune disorders.

Hepatic (the problem arises within the liver):hepatitis (commonly viral or alcohol related),cirrhosis,

drugs or other toxins, Crigler-Najjar syndrome, gilbert's syndrome and cancer .

Post-hepatic (after bile has been made in the liver):gallstone in the bile ducts, cancer (pancreatic and

gallbladder/bile duct carcinoma),strictures of the bile ducts, cholongitis ,congenital malformations, pancritis, parasites, pregnancy and newborn jaundice .

Type of jaundice

acholuric jaundice  jaundice without bilirubinemia, associated with elevated unconjugated bilirubin that is not excreted by the kidney.

acholuric familial jaundice hereditary spherocytosis. breast milk jaundice  elevated unconjugated bilirubin in some

breast-fed infants due to the presence of 5-β-pregnane-3-α-20-β-diol in breast milk, which inhibits glucuronyl transferase conjugating activity, or to dehydration.

cholestatic jaundice  that resulting from abnormal bile flow in the liver.

hemolytic jaundice  that due to increased production of bilirubin from hemoglobin under conditions causing accelerated degradation of erythrocytes.

hepatocellular jaundice  that due to injury to or disease of liver cells. hepatogenic jaundice , hepatogenous jaundice that due to disease

or disorder of the liver.

Type of Jaundice

leptospiral jaundice Weil's syndrome.mechanical jaundice obstructive j.neonatal jaundice , jaundice of the newborn

icterus neonatorum..nuclear jaundice kernicterus.obstructive jaundice  that due to blocking of bile

flow.physiologic jaundice  mild icterus neonatorum

lasting the first few days of life.retention jaundice  that due to inability of the liver

to dispose of the bilirubin provided by the circulating blood.
