• Surrogacy has emerged as the revolutionary technique in medical world especially in the field of reproductive health. Surrogacy is now the most sought after Assisted Reproductive Technique or ART for couples who are experiencing problems in conceiving or having their own child or baby through natural reproductive methods. • India has now emerged as the capital of commercial surrogacy with couples from around the world flying down in search of surrogate mothers in India. Surrogate mothers are those women who intentionally gestates a baby for others especially infertile couples. Those surrogates who accept to gestate out of compassion, love or service for friends, family members are known as “altruistic surrogates” and those women who do it for commercial purposes are called “ commercial surrogates”. In India, the majority of surrogacy is through commercial surrogates and that is why India has emerged as the land of commercial surrogacy.

After taking counseling from their doctors, these surrogate mothers do meet the intended parents or couples, understand their agony and pain, and consider money received as just a byproduct of what they are doing to these helpless couples.
