The Good Coach
Opening Activity – 10 minutes
What skills does the good coach possess?
What kind of things does the good coach do?
Preparation for session
• Gather and use appropriate information
• Produce a plan
• Consider Health & Safety
• Complete session information gather sheet identifying group, needs and facilities
• Prepare session plan – must show drill(s)/coaching points/emphasis

Warm Up and cool down
• Prepare players to take part in a training session.
• Take a warm-up and cool down with the players.• Some initial activity (pulse raiser) with ball.• Use dynamic stretching exercises.• Identify various joints/muscle groups used and
relevance to basketball.• Carry out cool down activity at end of session.
Lead/control session
• Lead a coaching session/part of a session that has been planned, involving a minimum of eight players.
• Control the activities of players when coaching.• Explain practice/session objectives.• Optimum use of facilities.• Stopping and Starting group activity• Control the group.• Personnel management.
Instruct
