CONCEPTThe Management of the Complex Hospitalized Patient conference is designed to provide physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with information and skills to improve their care of hospitalized patients. Topics presented will focus on special populations, such as geriatrics, and medical problems that span a spectrum of sub-specialties, such as end of life care, prognostication, and wound care. In addition, we will examine growing trends, such as accountable care organizations and information technology systems, and what that means for our patient population and care. We will also address upcoming regulatory changes and review existing definitions. Optional modules from the American Board of Internal Medicine Maintenance of Certification will be available at an additional fee.
This program has been designed to reflect the changing epidemiology of our hospitalized patients, from age to obesity. It will feature an interactive, computerized audience response system which will be employed to facilitate audience participation and teach-back techniques.
OBJECTIVESAfter participating in this comprehensive activity, the learner should able to:• Apply current evidence based concepts in hospital medicine to daily practice in
the hospital.• Document effectively, capturing the appropriate complexity of care their patient
requires.• Proactively prevent and manage complications in hospitalized patients such as
nosocomial infections, acute kidney injury, and pressure ulcers.• Develop an approach to multidisciplinary problems in the hospital such as
communicating prognosis, health literacy, and transitions of care.• Improve knowledge and test taking skills essential for successful ABIM
certification and recertification.
