MedicReS COURSE
Good Medical Researcher Certificate Program
“MedicReS aims to educate researchers and provoke discussion about good scientific method, statistics, ethics, publication,
and education. Faced with stifling bureaucracy, competition for funds and employer pressure to deliver results, finding the
time and space to produce the best research can seem an arduous process. “ The Lancet.

PURPOSE
To improve the quantitative and analytical skills needed for careers in Good Biostatistical Practice for
understanding & underlying the successful design and analysis of medical and public health research…

Why Good Medical Research? “Clinical research spending:
· $160 billion per year on biomedical research
· About 1/3 of this is on clinical research
The key question is ‘how’ to do good medical
research?
To answer this, one must first consider what
good medical research is
Good medical research answers a relevant
question. The AIM of the research is
paramount. The study design should allow for
the question to be answered. Leaving as few
doubts as possible or leading to a plan for
further research.
“85% of research is wasteful or inefficient” : Go
see a statistician (worth their weight in gold!)
Why good clinical research?
Save the world , relieve suffering, improve
society, help individuals, reduce pain”

Good Medical Research
According to MedicReS, researchers should have suffi
cient knowledge not only in their own disciplines but
also on ethical, biostatistical and methodological
principles while conducting their research. MedicReS
also aims at putting into practice Good Medical
Research philosophy and its components,
namely,good planning, good analyzing, good
reporting, good reviewing and good publishing,
creating good evidence, turning evidence to good
policy, developing a curriculum for good medical
research education, defi ned not only as ethical and
unbiased, but also powerful.

Why Teaching Good Medical Research Methods?
It has thus become increasingly important that the
teaching of good medical research methods be
expanded to scientists and institutions in low and
middle-income countries that face major health
challenges in the decades ahead.
There is a critical shortage of technical skills in
these countries--and for that matter in first-world
nations--of researchers who are imbued with a deep
understanding of the fundamental ideas underlying
the successful design and analysis of medical and
public health research studies.
Such ideas must necessarily incorporate the latest
algorithms and statistical approaches afforded by the
computing and communication revolutions,in
addition to the essential ethics of experimentation,
policy advising and reporting to our communities
regarding the public’s health.

CERTIFICATION & ACCREDITATION
MedicReS Credit Accreditation Certificate
MedicReS Accredited Continuous Medical Education Credit (MACMEC) Equal
to 1 ECMEC (European Credit Continuous Medical Education)
The “One hour education activities equals one credit” applies with a maximum
of 3 MACMEC per half day and 6 MACMEC 's per full day activity. MACMEC's
can then be translated by the National Accreditation Authorities in the World
in to the National Credits
What is Accredited CME?
Learner-Centered, Practice-Based
“Accredited CME is based on a learner-centered, continuous improvement model. Accredited providers
facilitate self-directed, practice-based education that supports physicians’ commitment to lifelong
learning. Whether health care professionals work in clinical care, research, administration, executive
leadership, or other areas of medicine, accredited CME is tailored to their needs and scope of practice.
CME is designed to offer solutions to real-world practice issues. In addition to providing updates on the
latest medical practices, guidelines, and research, accredited CME activities address local community
health concerns and support problem-solving and quality improvement initiatives within health
professionals' institutions. Accredited CME is offered through a wide range of formats and structures.
Much more than traditional lectures and grand rounds, CME encompasses one-on-one training,
performance-improvement projects, patient safety initiatives, online simulation, and learning from
teaching, courses, team-based learning, and numerous other approaches.” http://www.accme.org/
