National Health Council

Founded in 1920, the National Health Council is the only organization of its kind.

•Mission: To provide a united voice for the more than 133 million people with chronic diseases and disabilities and their family caregivers.

•Vision: We envision a world in which all people receive health care that meets their personal needs and goals.

•The NHC brings together all segments of the health care community.

The NHC focuses its activities on:

•Improving the health of all people

•Increasing support for health research

•Strengthening the community of patient advocacy

organizations

National Health Council

The National Health Council has five membership categories:

•Voluntary health agencies (VHAs), also called patient advocacy organizations

•Professional and membership associations

•Nonprofit organizations with an interest in health

•Business and industry

•Associate members

Connecting with Patients

• More than 4,800 people have signed the NHC’s Petition for Health Care Change at www.puttingpatientsfirst.net

• More than 14,000 unique visitors went to the Campaign to Put Patients First and NHC web in 2009

• More than 1,600 followers on Twitter, including several media sites

• More than 400 people have joined the Putting Patients First® Cause page and the National Health Council page on Facebook
