AphasiaAcquired language disorder in which there is an impairment of any language modality
Suggest total impairment of language
Causes:Lesions to language relevant areas (i.e. Broca’s area, Wernicke’s area)Damage can be caused by: Brain tumor, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Traumatic Brain Injury, Epilepsy
There are many different typesExample: Global Aphasia- severe communication abilities, extremely limited in speaking and comprehending language
