Reference Manager

• About Reference Manager – software tool used for storing and managing

references and creating bibliographies.

– over 30 pre-defined reference types to choose from such as journals, books, theses.

– eliminates the need for recording references on index cards, in notebooks etc.

– Bibliographies can be generated in a variety of styles

Creating a New Database in Reference Manager

1.Open Reference manager2.Click on File New database3.Name the new database4.Save outside of the Reference Manager

application folder (recommendation: Desktop)

Click on New Reference icon.

Enter bibliographic details of reference and save it.

Import References from PubMed

• Select citations in the box to the left (if you want all results, do not select any).

• Select Send to File.• Change the format to MEDLINE. A dialogue

box will appear. Click on Create File. • Open your Reference Manager database. Click

on References Import Text File…

• Filter: locate and select the PubMed.cap filter by clicking on the ellipsis icon

• Text File: select the text file containing the PubMed citations by clicking on Import

Direct Export can be done from certain databases such as:

• EBSCOhost• ProQuest• Science Direct• SpringerLink

• Open the new RIS file• Select Reference

Manager from new dialogue box

• Click OK.

• Select the Reference Manager Database to which you are exporting your SpringerLink citation

• Click Open.
