Buscopan Tablets


Sirdalud (Tizanidine) is a muscle relaxant which helps to relax certain muscles in your body. Sirdalud is available in tablets containing 2 mg, 4 mg or 6 mg Tizanidine Hydrochloride.


It relieves the painful muscle spasms related to the static and functional disorders of the spine or following certain surgeries such as herniated intervertebral disc or osteoarthritis of the hip. It is also used to treat spasticity due to neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, chronic myelopathy, degenerative spinal cord diseases, cerebrovascular accidents, and cerebral palsy.

Indications


Chemical Structure


The Recommended dosage of Sirdalud Tablets for various indications is given below:Painful muscle spasms: 2 to 4 mg three times daily.

Recommended Adult Dosage


Spasticity due to neurological disorders: The maximum initial recommended dosage is 6 mg/day in 3 divided doses. The dosage is then increased stepwise to achieve optimum therapeutic response (generally between 12 to 24 mg/day). The maximum daily dose is 36 mg which should not be exceeded.

Recommended Adult Dosage

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you remember when it is almost time for your next dose, take only your usual dose at that time.

Contraindications

Sirdalud Tablets are contraindicated in the following cases:

Known hypersensitivity to Tizanidine Hydrochloride or any inactive ingredients of this medication.

Significantly impaired hepatic function.

Concomitant use with strong CYP1A2 inhibitors such as fluvoxamine or ciprofloxacin.

Side Effects of Sirdalud Tablets

With low doses, such as those recommended for the relief of painful muscle spasms the reported side effects were somnolence, fatigue, asthenia, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, gastrointestinal disorder, transaminase increase, increased spasm or tone, blood pressure decrease.

Side Effects of Sirdalud Tablets

With the higher doses, as recommended for the treatment of spasticity, muscular weakness, insomnia, sleep disorder, hallucination, hypotension, bradycardia, hepatitis and hepatic failure have also been reported in addition to the side effects for lower doses.

Warnings And Precautions

Co-administration of Sirdalud with inhibitors of CYP1A2 such as some antiarrhythmics (amiodarone, mexiletine, propafenone), cimetidine, some fluoroquinolones (enoxacin, pefloxacin, norfloxacin), rofecoxib, oral contraceptives and ticlopidine is not recommended.

Hypotension may occur with potential severe symptoms such as loss of consciousness and circulatory collapse.

Gradual reduction in dosage is recommended to avoid withdrawal syndrome.

Caution is advised in patients with impaired kidney function.

Warnings And Precautions

Refrain from driving a vehicle or using machines if dizziness or hypotension occurs.

Use during pregnancy only if benefit clearly outweighs the risk.

Avoid breastfeeding.

Use in children not recommended and caution in elderly patients.

Overdosage Symptoms

A decrease in sensorium was observed in the majority of cases that included lethargy, somnolence, confusion and coma. Depressed cardiac functions are also observed including most often bradycardia and hypotension. Respiratory depression is another common feature of tizanidine overdose.

Overdose Treatment

Should overdose occur, basic steps to ensure the adequacy of an airway and the monitoring of cardiovascular and respiratory systems should be undertaken. Symptoms should usually resolve within one to three days following discontinuation of tizanidine and administration of appropriate therapy.
