SLSGB Beach/Surf Lifeguard Qualification
Overview
This is a national qualification that meets international standards for professional lifeguarding in a beach/surf environment. The qualification incorporates fitness, lifesaving skills, life support and people management skills. It is an excellent qualification for those wishing to travel in their gap year or for summer work outside of term time.
Course Duration
The course is run over of 6 days, with 5 days of training and assessment on the 6th day. Full attendance is required throughout training days if learners wish to be put forward for assessment. The instructor ratio is 1:12 learners.
Pre-requisites
1. Learners must be a minimum of 16 years of age on the date of assessment. 2. Learners must be able to complete a timed swim of 400 metres in eight minutes or
less for the beach lifeguard and 7 and a half minutes or less for the surf lifeguard. 3. Learners must be able to complete a 200 metres run, 200 metres swim, 200 metres
run within eight minutes. 4. Learners must be able to run 200m in 40 seconds or less. 5. Leaners must be able to speak an intermediate level of English.
Course Content

• Practical lifesaving skills and knowledge • Board rescues • Life support • First Aid • Spinal lifts and carries • Hand signals • Incident management • Escape Techniques • Unaided tows • Timed swims
Assessment and Certification
During the assessment you will be assessed on first aid, rescue, beach environment skills and knowledge as well as fitness. The fitness assessments will include the fitness requirements outlined in the pre-requisites. The qualification is certified through Surf Life Saving GB and is valid for 2 years. Pricing and location
