Some Stories of Cinderella

There are so many stories of Cinderella in the world and the variation is so many. For example, there is a story which the main character is boy.

I’ll talk about those stories especially about tough Cinderella. Who don’t wait her prince, who open up their future.

I can divide stories which I’ll tell from now on in two kinds. I want to name the two groups temporarily A and B.

• A Cap O’ Rushes (Cape O’ Rushes) Cat Skin Ubakawa Donkey Skin• B Allerieirauh (All-Kinds-of-Far)

First, I’ll tell you points of those story.

Cap O’ Rushes• A father asked his daughters how much they l

oved him and he eject his youngest daughter who answered as meat loves salt, because he thought she didn’t love him.

• The daughter wore cloak with hood made of rushes. She be employed as scullion in great house and she called Cap O’ Rushes.

• When a ball held, she went to there taking off the cloak. The young master fell in love with her. She didn’t tell her identity to him.

• The young man got illness because of love.• Cap O’ Rushes made gruel for him and put th

e ring which the young man gave her in it. The young master know who is he loved, and married with Cap O’ Rushes.

• On wedding, she asked cock to make dishes without salt. Her father eat it, and realized her love. She told she is his daughter, so they were happy.

Cat Skin

• A girl who is alienate by her father because he wanted his son, not daughter. He force his daughter to marry.

• She didn’t want it, so ask for three wonderful coat such as sun, moon, and sky. She also ask for coat of cat skin. She run away with them.

• She wore the coat of cat skin and be employed as scullion.

• When a ball held, she went with three nice coat. The prince fell in love with her.

• She didn’t tell her identity, but when the third times, the prince follow her and know who she is.

• Prince wanted to marry with Cat Skin, but his mother didn’t allow it. He got illness and didn’t take medicine without from Cat Skin. So his mother allowed their marry.

• After she bore a child, she told her husband her father. Prince searched him. Because the father regretted for his act, they made up.

UBAKAWA(old woman’s skin)

• A girl was bullied by her stepmother and be ejected from her house.

• She was got UBAKAWA, which change her into old woman when she wear it from YAMANNBA (old woman who lives in mountain).

• She was employed at rich man’s house as stoker. Everyone thought she is old woman.

• She takes a bath when everyone sleep.• A young master watched it accidentally.• He can’t know who she is, and got illnes

s because of love.• She take medicine to him and tell that s

he is his wanted girl, and took off UBAKAWA. The younger master recover and they married.

Donkey Skin

• A King wanted marry with his daughter because his wife stated to King in her will that marry with person as beautiful as her or more.

• The Princess asked for him three wonderful dress such as sun, moon, and sky to avoid marry with him.

• The King made them for her, so she also asked for him a donkey skin, which bear gold to fortune of the kingdom. Also he gave her it, so she ran away with them.

• She wore the donkey skin, and labored at farmhouse. Only holiday, she put off the skin and wear some dresses in her space.

• A prince watched her accidentally, and knew that she is called Donkey skin.

• He got illness and want to eat a cake which Donkey skin made.

• When she made it, a ring which she sometimes wear mixed in it.

• The Prince recovered and said he will marry with the girl who can wear the ring.

• Only Donkey skin could wear it, so they married.

Allerleirauh

• A King wanted marry with his daughter because his wife stated to King in her will that marry with person as beautiful as her or more.

• The Princess asked for him three wonderful dress such as sun, moon, and stars to avoid marry with him.

• The King made them for her, so she also ask for him a dress of all-kinds-of-far. Also the King made it, so she ran away with them.

• She wore the dress of all-kinds-of-far and lurk in den of wood. When the King’s hunt, he found her but couldn’t notice that she is his daughter.She was employed as scullion at the castle.

• When a ball held, she danced with the King wearing wonderful dresses and after it, she ran away.

• She made soup for King and put golden spool and so on, the King know they are the princess’s thing.

• The King knew she is his wanted girl, and married.

Same Points

1. Wear skin or dress which change her into another figure.

2. Work as scullion or and so on.3. First time they tell their false figure.

Consideration

Except B group, the skin and ruches hide girl’s beauty. And girls show men their ugly figure at first.

I think they test men’s love. They wanted real love, not love which is only appearance. So, though they ran away once, putting their ring or and so on in food for men as if they want to be found their husband.

B group is different from A group a little. But also she acted for her happy as A group’s girls did. Cinderellas in those story are so tough.

Supplement

• Cat skin, Allerieirauh and Donkey skin are ask dresses such as sun, moon and sky or stars. These story are classified as “model of dress of sun, moon, stars”, separated from “model of Cap O’ Rushes”. But I gathered them paying attention to their act.
