Strain elastography of the prostate is based on the analysis of tissuedeformation in a region, generated by inducing a mechanical stress(tissue compression by the transrectal transducer itself)

Shear wave elastography: SWE basic principle relies on two succes-sive steps:first, a shear wave is remotely induced by the transrectalprobe through therectal wall into the prostate using the acous-tic radiation force of a focusedultrasonic beam; second, the shearwave propagation is captured by imagingthe prostate at very high-frame rate.

Prostate elastography may be recommended to increasediagnostic confidence in the detection of prostate cancer(characterization of a focal abnormal area, detection of a stiffregion not seen with other imaging techniques) and toincrease the positive predictive biopsy rate.
