Structure of RNA
• Single stranded• Ribose Sugar• 5 carbon sugar• Phosphate group• Adenine, Uracil, Cytosine, Guanine
Types of RNA
• Three main types• Messenger RNA (mRNA) – transfers DNA code
to ribosomes for translation.• Transfer RNA (tRNA) – brings amino acids to
ribosomes for protein synthesis.• Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) – Ribosomes are made
of rRNA and protein.

• At least one specific type of tRNA for each of the 20 amino acids • Carry its specific amino acid to the site of protein synthesis
tRNA ( transfer RNA)is a small RNA that has a very specific secondary and tertiary structure such that it can bind an amino acid at one end, and mRNA at the other end. It acts as an adaptor to carry the amino acid elements of a protein to the appropriate place as coded for by the mRNA. T

• Components of ribosome• Facilitate the binding and positioning of the mRNA on the ribosomes
